Some people over in the neoGAF forum have searched the server of the Virtual Console and found images of both the original Metroid and Super Metroid. Seeing as how Metroid Prime 3 is about to be released in a few weeks, it isn't too surprising that Nintendo is about to release one of these. I expect either next Monday, with the other coming on the same day as MP3

I'm sure I saw Metroid NES on the virtual console earlier today when I checked it quickly after the firmware update...I was never a big fan of the original, but I can't wait for Super Metroid, it'll rock...too bad Prime 3 is delayed a couple of months over here...

Yeah Metroid is on EU VC, but it really really sucks. I mean there's not even any nostalgia to cover it up. If you completed Zero Mission you unlocked it. It's by far the hardest game I've played and it's boring.

Metroid is an amazing game. Granted Super Metroid is better, but Hell that's because its one of the if not THE best SNES games ever created.
FYI: The Metroid franchise only screwed up once. Metroid II: Return of Samus.
I can't wait for Super Metroid. It's been my most wanted VC game since I got my console. Heck, I've wanted to play it since I was a kid (never owned a SNES).
I never played Super Metroid, so I'm looking forward to downloading it.

Good news! Metroid is confirmed for release in North America on 13th August and Super Metroid a week later on 20th August, according to that Metroid Prime 3 preview on the Wii Shop Channel.
