Life is full of misunderstandings. They come and go, and have their varient ways of happening as well. But the whole situation around Capcom's survival horor games Resident Evil 5, [which isn't due out for the PS3, 360, and possibly the Wii till next year of 2008] is taking a toll on the gaming community in saying that the game is racist towards Africans and Afro-American [including all other blacks...CLOUD]
My personal feelings towards this is plain and simple; this is stupid. Sounds like a childish saying but it is true. This is simply rediculous. Another game, where blacks feel offended and think that causiing a scene will make things better. No. It will not make things better. If the African American community wants to feel offended by anything; get mad at games like GTA San Andreas, where the main character [who is OMG! African American] is senselessly killing hordes of people in the streets and gang banging. Do you think that mess is a positive out look on African American being portrayed world wide?! Resident Evil 5 doesn't even sniff the surface of blacks being portrayed negatively in anyway.
Look in the freaking newspaper for Christ's sake! Millions upon millions of African's are being killed off due to many reasons; militant control, disease, poverty, and civil war. You want to really complain about something, complain about that! Donate! Go out there and HELP them! This game will be made regardless, of if you feel this game is wrong or not [i don't see anything wrong]
So just stop. Take a brief second and look at what you're saying. For those who see this madness going on, even though this is the internet... and arguement can not be won online. Try your best, because this is the internet, not everyone is stupid and someone will see your plea to logic and will also spread the word to others. This will spread so much to the point that everyone will see. [/rant]
I completly agree with everything you said above.
Not sure why this is in the Nintendo section though.
I know it is so stupid. One thing I would like to point out is that if you truly believe in equality then you should see man killing people/zombies. Not white man killing black people/zombies.
agreed (and it's coming out on wii too)
I believe GFT posted a similar editorial.

really. it was getting to me. i keep seeign the same stuff all over the place!
People get offended with the stupidest and littlest things, I totasly agree with you.
So right. It really is redicolous. The very only thing about it that makes sense in some way would be that the protagonist is a bit too white, strong, good looking, cool and about to kick ass.
No, I would really not like capcom if this got to the point where, they a.) relocate.. that would change the new gameplay. b.) get rid of Chris.

a) I'm not so sure at this point. What I have seen form RE5 so far looks exactly the same as RE4 as far as gameplay goes. Simply relocating doesn't necessarily change the gameplay. Seriously, if they just switched to the middle east, Chris Redfield would be beating the crap out of moslems, but no one would give a sh*t about it.
b) hmmm how about having him replaced by Ada Wong? Asianisity (w/e) plus pure sexyness combined with kicking butts. I'd like that.
Personally, I don't think Capcom will change anything. You could see all this as an interesting way of advertising. Everyone is talking about this game, everyones interest rises and more ppl will buy this game.
yeah i couldnt believe it when i first heard it lol, but i bet someone would have complained if we'd made them all white too :|
no...no one would have complained if it was all white people.
it's not racism, but I believe it's perfectly believable to me that Capcom did this on purpose to spur sales. They knew that the whole 'white guy killing black guys' would spread around more than the Black Plague. (unintended pun)
To quote Jerry Seinfeld
"Aren't we all getting a little too sensitive these days? If somebody asks me which way to Israel, I don't fly off the handle!"
Seriously, I have friends in EVERY minority, African Americans, Mexicans, even some people that I THINK may be playing for the other team. And hey, whatever, we're all people, and one characteristic does NOT define who you are. What DOES upset me, was when today, I was buying a new phone in the T Mobile store, and the customer service rep was informing an African American couple they couldn't upgrade, they threw a scene, and asked for a phone to call the T Mobile center, and cried racism. I just hate ANYONE overusing the idea of racism.
Look, I don't want to offend anyone, but what Don Imus said, WAS unacceptable, and frankly, it was time for that dry fish to go. However, Al Sharpton cried all over it, and made it a big issue (just watch the video on Sharpton's show on youtube). Or when Jessie jackson made a stink after Michael richards issue, and tried to sabatoge sales of SEINFELD's show. The problem is not the people, neccisarily, it's that the MEDIA goes ahead and covers all of it, and makes it more of an issue than it is.
Just my $0.02
When I origanally watched the trailer during E3 I saw nothing towards racism at all. I just saw sweet zombie killing action. I would never have guessed this would have been blown so out of proportion at that time. This really does need to stop.
why didn't Spaniards throw a hissy-fit with RE4? geebus people need to get a clue. i bet if the main character was black they'd ***** about black-on-black violance, and if the main character was black and beating the crap out of white zombies, there'd be absolutely no problem with it
how bout everyone just gets the hell over it and lives life without complaining about every little thing?
Well if this game takes place in Africa it would be weird seeing only white people. Just like in the grudge 2 almost everyone in Japan was white.
im agreeing with ya, no one complained when there were spanish people getting killed in re4, so why is there an uproar now?
btw, those re5 graphics made me **** my self.
I totally agree with you JM. All of this overuse of the term needs to stop. I cant even go to school for a week without hearing the phrase: "What, is it because i'm black!?"
You guys kind of sound ignorant to me...
I am black... well half black and half white. But society views me as black and in my honest opinon i feel black and am black lol...
If you guys on the forum can't understand how this could be offensive then i don't know what to tell you.
IM NOT OFFENDED BUT I CAN SEE HOW BLACK PEOPE COULD GET OFFENDED...
This country AMERICA you might as well say was built by blacks, slavery was black people building things and doing hard labor. After the terrible events of slavery there was horrible racisim and discrimination. Alot of this stuff was still going on 40 yrs ago! Black people were betrayed in very offensive manners minstral shows etc...
Im not offended but i would not be surprised if there was not racist motives behind this game...
I don't give a crap but i am not goona act like it is unreasonable to think that it may be ment offensive. I don't know maybe you have to be black to understand.
To be honest there are not really that many black people in video games unless you count sports...
Just be openminded and understand that it is not so unreasonable to think that there maybe racist motives in the game. Blacks have had to deal with alot of **** in this country and still do today...
Seriously, this thing is getting out of hand all over the net. Time to inject a little dose of facts and reality. Blacks are _not_ throwing a hissy fit about RE5. Like everybody else with more than one brain cell to rub together, blacks in general do not look at RE5 and see anything that could be connected to racism.
The entire hoopla started thanks to a blurb written by some chick in a black feminist blog. Said chick absolutely does not represent even a tiny fraction of blacks. Said chick obviously knows nothing about video games in general or the Resident Evil series. The post reads more like she was looking for something to take issue with and didn't even bother to look beyond the images.
Here's the link to the blog. Read it and weep like I did. It's really unfortunate that the media took one little blog post and extrapolated it to Every. Single. Black. Person on the internet. Every single discussion about this on the web has more than a few blacks commenting on just how stupid her post is. The post can only be due to one of two things; extreme ignorance or extreme trolling. Let's not feed the trolls.
WannaWii: You're trying to defend an argument that has zero substance.
@wannawii This, is what I, and many of my friends who are black (BTW, I'm NOT black), are tired of hearing. Slavery was TERRIBLE, and my stomach, to this day, wrenches every time I hear about it. The civil rights movement in the 60 should never have had to occur, laws should have prohibited segregation so much earlier.
That said, it's time for African Americans today to stop using it as a scapegoat. As a very liberal person (Political compass, -4.8, -6.5), and someone who was a Barrack Obama supporter (until I saw hillary destroy the competition in the debates), I understand there are still issues. But you know what, I, as a white, heterosexual male, feel that I am one of the few people who cannot say anything without being second guessed.
A lot of labor happened with slavery, but, a good portion of this country was built properly, so I happen to take offense to that statement. Sure, video games do not include black people that much (although I've seen a good number of games with black people), but that's up to the devs. Honestly, take a good look at a game like Crackdown, there's one or two black officers, and more white ones. It's an American game, and that is about the ratio there is in this country, am I not right? To me it sounds fair to include a proper race proportion.
