Sure, loads of British people aren't happy with the PS3's price. They get screwed badly enough on console prices as it is, let alone staring a £425 (USD$860) price-tag in the face. Time for some British retailers and publishers to speak out. First up is Duncan Cross, who runs the games section for giant supermarket chain Asda:

"I think for us and for Asda's customers there's no doubt that we'd like to have seen some price movement on PS3. The US have got a cut and we've got the games bundle but it's just not the same. I think the console needs an extra something to really get it up to full speed."

Also chipping in was SCi boss Jane Cavanagh:

"From our point of view, the acceleration of that installed base could be driven by further price cuts. The hardware is pretty expensive. As soon as we start to see cuts coming in, we'll be more comfortable with the performance of PS3."

The fact that the month after the US announced a price cut there was a doubling of hardware sales speaks volumes - and is incredibly encouraging. If we could have a similar price drop to the US, that would be a very positive first step.

I'm sure somebody's told them that the US price-cut was only temporary, but let them have their moment. This is obviously something they'd like to get off their chests. And at £425, can you blame them?

I can totally understand with our friends under the Union Jack. When it comes to prices of things we get for less over here, they are getting completely raped. A bundle is nice and all, but if I lived in England and heard that the States get a price-cut and we didn't, I'd be pretty upset too.

As an added bonus, I'll throw in an opinion poll.

I think anyone would be pretty much happy with a price cut, pretty much the PS3's only problem. When I saw that they were gonna add a game or two with same cost, I still wasn't interested 'cause obviously I still couldn't afford it. Slash the prices Sony Smile
We will get a price cut.....Eventually.
Of course it should get a price-cut. Alot of people say its the only thing stopping them from getting a PS3. So if Sony dropped the price then they'd get more sales.

Of course, I'm not Sony.
I'll take a price cut. If it's low enough I might actually consider buying one.
Sony needs to slash the PS3 price EVERYWHERE, not just in Britain.
I agree a price cut would be the best, but here's my question. If we take the price of the PS3 in Britain and compare it to the U.S., do we see a similar difference in 360 and Wii pricing? I guess what I'm getting at is, do other countries getting naturally higher prices due to taxing on goods?
In Australia the PS3 will set you back $999.99... so not worth it. Which is why it is in need of a large price cut. I'm talking like $200-$300 off the price in AU$$. But I don't see that happening any time soon.
This may be a really stupid question, but if you bought a PS3 in the U.S. or had a U.S. citizen buy one for you, would you have to pay a tax when you had it shipped into your country?
Everyone loves a Price Cut.

I wish I knew, because I'm very annoyed by the Australian price and if I can find a cheaper way there is a chance I'll take it.

$999 is too much for any console.

I wonder if you were able to give someone in the states the cash how much it would cost for them to ship it to you home. The PS3 doesn't use any regional lock, so that would be your best bet.

I would think with insurance and all it might cost upwards of $20 to ship the thing to you (uneducated guess).
