i went to a forum to talk about how i cant play videos on my dinky little chinese mp4 player that i bought on http://www.uxcell.com (not advertising but what you do on that link is of none of my concern)

i love it to pieces but it says that the "vista" in 2G is only able to play AVI format videos. meanwhile most of my downloads are AVI format to begin with and i "purchased" the software that i was requested to get which was xilisoft and avi converter.

they keep saying it has to probably do with the screen size and ive done just about everything

i really want to get this thing to work so if anyone has any ideas or any past experience with mp4 players please let me know what this spaz (IE ME) is doing wrong!!

Hmmm, D4rk has an mp4 player, definitely PM him. I know it says AVi, but have you tried MJPEG?

ive tried EVERYTHING from AMV. MTV, ipod conversions just everything!!! its such a pain in the tushy!

i asked d4rk and he didnt know actually. he convinced me to get an ipod when i told him i wanted a zune lol.

the mp4 players i have are just little nonsence ones. nothing too drastic just would be nice to get videos on it if its capable of doing such ya know?

One program, the mother of all video converters (NEVER pay for video conversion software). It takes all of the free/OSS conversion utilities for Windows (x264, ffmpeg), and puts a nice Win32 GUI on them. If you run it in Vista, make sure to run as administrator. Additionally, it's a hard app to use, so you'll need to tinker with it.

im looking to get a zune this christmas, i dont want an ipod cause everyones got one. i dont want to be a "conformist" lmao

they arent bad TBH but i dont want that. like i wrote to cloud, i am extremely interested in a zune. the mp4 players i bought on uxcell are little cheapy fun toys to play around with and mod around with. it surpases the time and allows me to solder things....ooOoOoOoOoO!!!

Not quite... Yeah, they look cool and everything..

But they are the most intuitive.

Plus an iPod 80G has 266% the storage capacity of a regular zune.

The image quality is better on an iPod because the zune's display is the same resolution just a little bit bigger, so the image is stretched out more (an example is watching a video cassette on an HDTV ... just a little less extreme).

You can get a lot more 3rd party addons for the iPod.. how many Zune speaker systems do you see in your local electronics store?

There are hacks available for the iPod (like iPod linux), I don't believe any such thing exists for zune.

My iPod is practically full. Only my Music collection would fit on a zune. My iPod has like 11 films, and almost 40 full television seasons on it too, along with about 2G worth of podcasts. Oh, there's also over 2000 photos on my iPod

My iPod has pac-man, tetris and breakout.

The iTunes store now sells higher bit rate DRM-Free songs so you can do what you like with your music again.


The only bad thing I can say about the iPod (aside from scratching and it's common) is that the earphones are prone to falling appart after a few months of continuous use. I just bought a pair of Sennheisers and I was in audial bliss.

anyways accessories arent that big of a deal. i have an awesome bose speaker system attached to my laptop/ghetto desktop. i can plug it in through the audio jack. also FM transmitters to play through my home stereo as well (i have sirius satalite radio that i do that with and the speaker set up for that as well. i can use the line in capabilities)

the one thing im concerned about are cases. i know zune has cases esp silicon and leather ones. thats the only thing id need. ipod is a death trap but then again, dealextreme here i come! lol.

as for headphones, i have a beautiful pair of sony noise cancelling in the ear buds that were a pretty penny as well. i used them for my olympus mrobe until it died on me

anyways i see your point with the ipod i knwo they have compression software to put TONS more than you could ever imagine on it and i know there are plenty of hacks to do virtually anything you want. the thing is like last year i had 2 ipod videos brand new in plastic. i thought about keeping them but instead i sold them on ebay. i had no desire for them really and didnt want it. didnt think it was worth it. i just of just kept it it was free and i had 2 for pete sake meh oh well

i know there are hacks for the zune but in truth i think id leave it alone. all i want is to put a few songs on it (roughly 1000 at most) and then like a couple of videos for BS days when i have nothing to do or occupy myself with at work/long car rides.

thats really why i want a zune. i think it meets my needs very nicely

However, MPEG-4 (Microsoft's version of it), is roughly equivalent to Apple's MP4 (the actual standard), and pretty identical to H.264 in quality/size ratio.
