Sony erects massive PS3 server cluster for Warhawk mayhem

C'mon, we all knew PS3 clusters were good for more than academia, right? Thankfully for those who are itching to jump right into a worldwide dogfight when Warhawk lands, it looks like Sony has you covered. Granted, the game will allow for PS3 owners to host and play on their own matches, but the Ranked-Dedicated servers that you may also opt for shouldn't be lacking in terms of sheer power. Constructed by the SCEA IT team, this ginormous PS3 cluster will soon be used to connect Warhawk gamers everywhere, and while we're never told precisely how many PlayStation 3s were scrounged up in order to make this happen, feel free to click on through for another shot and start countin'.

I never really thought of it, but using your own ps3 to as a server (that can actually hold more than 2 people like using the ps2 as a server) could come in handy.

wenis said erection.

EDIT: just kidding, but, wow....i dont they would notice if 1 went missing....
Remember back when the PS2 launched and the US government was so afraid a foreign would get their hands on one and cause havoc...well the PS3 is far more powerful...but I guess with Sudan out of the picture we don't have to worry about such things (joking of course)

Good find Wenis
why would the government be afraid of foreigners playing video games lol
wow...that was a weird way to use the word erection...

servers are FTW

Back in those days the US government was afraid that a rouge country and I think they specifically talked about Iraq could take a number of PS2's and combine then to form a supercomputer of sorts.....I'm not sure if that would make it easier to do devious things or research into things we didn't want them doing, but that was the big deal at the time.

lmfao at the title. christ, i've never seen so many ps3's in my life! interesting way how they are doing things though...is this the way all servers are?
Well I dont know much about servers, but i do know the ps3 is a 'supercomputer', so it could be. I don't think ps2 servers were a bunch of ps2's stacked up like that though

yeah, true. ps2 technology isnt nearly as powerful as ps3...( i think...o_0)

BTW, talk about a fire hazard!

haha yeah. The temperature in that room has to be 90 degrees constantly i bet...

Biggest understatement I've heard in a while. Toungue
The PS2 was the least powerful (not by much) of the last generation, while the PS3 is the most powerful of this one. And it is indeed very powerful.

eh....is that supposed to be an insult or are u agreeing with me? huh?

No insult intended at all. D:
Just bad wording, sorry. Smile
*wipes sweat off forehead* cool then!
I think this is kind of cool. I mean warhawk running off of a bunch of PS3's...personally I think it's a cool PR move.

Yeah, Sony is working hard to get some good PR! Good for them. Not to mention this lets them use up some of those PS3's collecting dust Hehe

True about the PS3 and Microsoft has kept the 360's from collecting dust by having so many of them on route from the owner's home, to the repair center, and then back again.
