I have an idea that will hopefully catch on and change the site to a better format for easier browsing and posting. vBulletin.  Any of you who have used a vBulliten forum know that it is much easier to navigate than this site's format.  For example, on this site most options are crammed at the bottom of the home page, on vBulletin, they are on the top.  I'll show you an example of a vBulletin forum:

vBulletin Forum:

As you can see, all you're options are neatly layed out and easy to access.  Posting new threads is also much easier along with regular posting.  It will also be much easier to manage your profile (User CP):

So, waht do you guys say?
It sounds like a cool idea to me, but its all up to the guys at the top.
Yes, I'm sure many people would benefit from it - allowing quicker searches, and more posts, raising this site's status when searched on Google.
Well, we have plans for this format which our handsome admin, D4rkDrag0on, is working on. And they are being made for MyBB as far as I know.
Try to steer him towards vBulliten if you get a chance.
I'll let D4rk tackle this discussion, he is teh designer lol.

*places red carpet down for d4rk*

I am a member on a few vBulletin forums, but I am liking this one more than those other ones. Not sure if its D4rk's awesome work, or the fact I like MyBB more.

But I like this.

Yeah so what, WiiChat is a forum powered by vBulletin.  Get your facts strait before you insult people.

Dude alot came from there cause it sucked
So what? We're not talking about forum rankings, Wiichat is a vBulletin forum and that's all there is to it.
He is using the WiiChat screencap to show a vBulletin example. I could do this with Smashboards or FatedChildren.net if that would make you happier?

This has nothing to do with WiiChat, I repeat: nothing to do with WiiChat.
Thank you LemonManX.
i dont really dislike the set up here, its just loaded with ads and pisses me off. the green text is obnoxious and when your mouse pointer is over it indirectly, you get annoying banner popping up.

grrrrrr

but that truely has nothing to do with the lay out. IMO i think its fine. orderly, organized, and easy to find things.

i think its because we're so used to a particular format, we're forgetting that there are others out there as well.

this is just something to get used to i suppose Smile i also hate digging for subscribed threads!! grrrrr times2
Yeah VBulletin FTW (just 'cause I'm used to it). It's good to hear D4rk had this in the making.
Well most sites are Vbulletin and I think this site has some originality coming from the fact it isn't.

VBulletin would cost more (I think) also and i think the ship is pretty good here anyway.

I like the forum as it is, but I would like a better subscription feature and less of those green ad's.
Okay, well I've dealt with the green ads, they shouldn't bother you until I properly implement them (not so they're spazzing everything out.)

If you want to put what you'd change into bullet points then It'd help me figure out exactly what you miss from vB

or
http://www.mybboard.net/features

Make the right choice.

vBulletin cost about $300 USD (£140).  That's not too much, and if you don't want to pay, then you can set up a donations section of the forum:

From NFSCars, a vBulletin Forum.
Why does this thread read like a huge vBulletin advertisement?
Just tell D4rk yourselves what you liked about vBulletin and I don't think it would too hard to integrate that into the site with MyBB.
...We're not switching forum system, we chose open source software because generally it's more secure and a lot easier to work with.

And just scanning that vB list, MyBB has nearly all those features.

now, I'll ask again.

What exactly would you have me do differently?

edit: Its not the money, we were prepared to pay. We just chose to go with the superior forum system, that's all. You can do a hell of a lot more with a MyBB than you can with a vB. In fact, someone made their MyBB look and behave just like vB.
Trust us guys, we have considered using vB in the past, but the decision was made a while back to stick with MyBB for various reasons. Money was not the issue, as the monthly server costs are more than a lifetime vB license (edit: $300 now? That's alot more than it used to be), not to mention the advertising we spent early on and the prizes we gave away on launch day (which together exceeded $3k).

With our current skin, we kinda sacrificed functionality for cleanliness. With the feedback we received after the release of this skin, we started work immediately on a different one (as opposed to further developing this one) to rectify the shortcomings of this (very clean) theme.

I'll also point out that when we first enabled the green advertisements, they were very few in number and did not cause the errors we are now seeing. We are working to rectify this.

The next theme will feel more "familiar" and easy to navigate, as we are designing it with this in mind.
