Bioshock ships out to retailers on August 21st but for those of use that can't wait to get our hands on it, just go onto Live and you will see that there is a new demo for Bioshock! The demo weighs in at 1.35 GB. The demo was also released alongside the televised launch trailer, as seen above. Happy gaming!!
played through it twice. wow, this game is just all sorts of badass.
the controls are atually pretty good. the control layout really impressed me. it has that touch of PC-quick-weapon switch to it that i havent seen any other game do. i have a feeling that more developers are gonna borrow this idea. it just works really well.
graphics are good. i'd say theyre about as good as gears of war. there's just these few times where if you walk up to things, they look gigantic and really ugly. you know that part before you enter the bathroom the first time? behind it are phone booths and you find a medi-kit in one of them. walk up to the phone and notice how enormous and ugly it gets. it makes you look like a dwarf. lol. the lighting is well done too. you'll notice that the light your plasmid hand emits reflects off objects. this works vice versa as well. oh... and the water is really nice! it's just an incredible looking game.
sound is fan-effin-tastic! the ambient sounds, the cool 40's music playing from the overhead speakers, weapons, etc. so far nothing "sounds" underdeveloped. everything has a nice punch to it.
this is definitely a must-buy for me. i dont know if most of you know this, but these guys are the same ones that made system shock2. i didnt play it, but apparently it is a highly regarded game. unfortunately it didnt sell well. i really want these guys to continue making games of this caliber, and i think im gonna bite the bullet and support them by buying the collector's edition.

Yesterday mass hysteria ensued as it became apparent select retailers had broken the street date for BioShock and were selling one of the most anticipated games of the year a week early. There was even a TV ad that was spotted declaring the game was "available now." For our part, IGN was thwarted in all its attempts to secure an early copy. At KB Toys, the nerd in front of us grabbed the last unit.
In a statement to GameDaily BIZ, publisher 2K has responded to the premature sales -- but doesn't appear to be too bothered by them.
"It recently came to 2K Games' attention that one of our retail partners prematurely sold some copies of BioShock prior to the game's official launch date. Retailers are typically shipped product in advance to ensure they can meet launch day demand on street-dated product. As a result, a few people were able to purchase the game early. Additionally, a TV advertisement for BioShock prematurely ran that incorrectly indicated that the game was available for purchase. 2K Games has reached out to our retail partners and is maintaining the street date of August 21st in North America and August 24th in Europe, when BioShock will be available at retailers. 2K Games is appreciative of the gamer excitement and critical acclaim leading up to the title's launch."
At the time of this writing, eBay auctions for early copies of BioShock were up to $157.50.
Coming off of a warm reception from those who played the demo, BioShock seems to have enough goods to be attracting excellent reviews and praise from the game review gods. Over on metacritic, two more BioShock reviews have been added from EuroGamer and Game Informer with both publications agreeing that BioShock deserves a perfect 100 score. These two, on top of OXM UK's perfect review, further push the BioShock hype-o-meter into overdrive and proves to doubters that the game has the goods and actually lives up to what was promised from day one.
We'll keep an eye on these official reviews as they trickle in to see if this little masterpiece reaches the stratosphere of greatness. Or maybe you could win (win) BioShock from X3F, play it tomorrow, and then give us your official review of the entire game. Because we all know a fanboy's opinion is one of the most sought after.
It was said ealier but its worth repeating, BELIEVE THE HYPE.
Bioshock is amazing, A friend of mine got it yesterday afternoon, as our local Toys r' Us started selling it early. Its shaping up to be a must by of the season.
i preordered the limited edition online. i should receive it the same week of its release. now i gotta stop reading other forums/threads with a bioshock title on them. i dont even want to read previews or reviews anymore. im afraid i'll read a spoiler! lol
