You know that Wii shortage you were certain Nintendo would alleviate by now? We hate to inform you that plans to expand production on the console has been delayed due to their constrained supply of specific components, according to a report by Digitimes.
Though the goal was originally to have production ramped up starting this past June, the Taiwan component makers now expect the shortage woes to last through the end of the year. With Smash Bros. and Mario Galaxy almost guaranteed to move units this holiday season, it'll be such a tease (not to mention detrimental to Nintendo's bottom line) if the Wii is still, after over a year, impossible to find in stores.

If they can't get certain parts they can rev up the production, but I don't care, because I already got mine

.
I'm not so sure about future plans to increase output, but this is prolly a good answer to why it hasn't happened already.
With no disrespt to the Wii or Nintendo, what exactly on the system is so cutting edge that there would be a shortage of? I mean nothing else using the processor, gpu, and making the dvd drive that doesn't read anything other than a Wii game or GC game seems a bit rediculous.
Maybe ball those parts are being used in the PS3? XD
I'd like to think better of the big N...but they are a business as well... And this IS ridiculous.
I agree with the guy who said
theres a shortage of plastic and 8 year old graphics processors?
just not that harshly. lol
and for you lazy people who didn't read his source, let alone THAT source. here's the exact components.

edit 2: Intel's really running out of mobo's....? doubt it...

It's kind of funny how many people can't have an honest discussion about the Wii or in this case a discussion about how they can't ramp up production because of XYZ.
We can joke all we want, but Nintendo dropped the ball here, and right now when 360's will be priced the same as the Wii in certain areas...what's to stop gamers from saying "forget about the Wii, I still can't find one in stores."?
Absolutely nothing..that's what.
Either they have been trying to "control flow" to maximize hype, and therefore, long-range sales...and now they're doing it too much.... or it really is a shortage.

Must be out of duct tape

I don't think your mom will be playing Halo instead of Wiisports, and you can't get Metroid, SMG, SSBB, Zelda on the 360, unless you're a pro hacker.
Kasaioni, can explain what that has to do with Nintendo not being able to ramp up production or are you intentially trying to spam?
I think he's saying that your mom (representing casual gamers) and hardcore gamers dedicated to certain franchises will be the ones that choose the wii over the 360, even priced the same.

you talk about the disc drive like nobody has a CD player or DVD player anymore:/
I think I talk like those things have been around long enough that there isn't a shortage of them.
Maybe Nintendo's makeing the Wii 2.0, but probobly not, it's to early for that, there must be one part of the Wii thats in shortage, even the tinnyest wire could be a problem, or maybe they're just slaking off.
(Thanks for clearifying my post Brawny)
already got one so not my intrest
Wow this sucks for all those who don't already have wiis....
They are already hard to find...
Yup, haven't seen one at Wal-Mart since December.
