Anyone wanna recommend me some good anti-virus/spam/hacking programs? I'm currently using Windows Live, Spy Sweeper and Spybot Search & Destroy. Are there any other ones that I should know about?
Oh and I had Norton but didn't like it.
Windows live One care all the way.
i got McAfee Security Center and Windows Defender and with those two my computer has been doin pretty damn good...
Hmm... WLOC.... not the best choice in the world
IMO, It's bloated and detects next to nothing..
NOD32 for your AV (It's got a small footprint, not bloated, and has yet to miss a virus thrown at it by professional AV testers)
I used to recommend ZoneAlarm as a firewall but recently it's become bloated
so Outpost Firewall is now my SoftFireWall of choice
A Hardware firewall is what you really want though.
I'm using NOD32, when it expires, I'm going to use AVG.
thanks for the suggestions d4rk. I'm gonna try NOD32
btw, what do you mean by 'bloated'?
Means it slows down your computer, takes up a lot of resources. (RAM/CPU)
Windows Live Onecare - Stay as far away as possible. First of all, the scanner is dead slow. The detection engine is laughable at best.
Norton - Although Symantec corporate is good (as Symantec has relatively good detection rates), the retail product aims for the candy interface, and has become incredibly bloated.
McAfee - Since it's 2005 overhaul, this product has become considerably more effecient. Great detection rates, however, it is a little resource intensive, because of the whole "suite". Not a big fan of the "Security center" and how it has empty spots for what's not installed. The non native GUI is a little bit of a negative.
AVG - Good product, very light on resources, reccomended for Xp or below (still has issues with Vista)
Avast - Great product, I use the free version, and I have the Pro version at work. Lightweight, and great detection rates.
Nod32. Great application. Light, almost transparent. Great detection rates. The only downside is it's not very user friendly.
Kaspersky - IMO, the best detection rates, good engine, but not the best on resources. A little clunky GUI.
Bitdefender - The best for average Joes. Does the job well, not the best in detection or resources, but not bad either.
Fprot and others. Just stay away from them.
well Ive got Windows Live and it isn't slowing my computer down. Actually it got a lot faster when I uninstalled Norton.
guess I'll give some of these a try. How many should I have on one computer without slowing it down too much?

You should only have one at a time. Sometimes, with more than one, the herustics engines can detect the low level activity of the other, and attempt to fight it. Not only can this corrupt the AV and Windows install, it will slow your computer to a halt if it actually occurs.
Take it from me, get Windows Live Onecare off your machine.
i've been using "AVG Free". never had problems with it and it's always updating itself daily.
a couple other programs i use are CCleaner and Adaware.

wait. Should I take it off if I'm going to install another? Or just take it off period?

Definitely take it off if you're going to install another. But I still highly recommend to take it off period, and permanently replace it.
@greaserlee
CCleaner truely is an excellent program, isn't it? It seems like the cure for almost any Windows problem (The registry scanner). And the data cleaner works wonders for applications like MS word, which don't allow the user easy access to clear the recent document list.
ehhh, i use mcafee? and AVG?
