Bigger's not always better

but 1080p is something you won't regret
Or you could come to EfA...
>.>
<.<;
If I was in the market to spend that much on a TV, I would have to go with a 1080p. No, bigger isn't always better. The 42" only does 720p (no 1080i or p). You should also consider the distance that you'll be watching from. My LCD is in my bedroom and since I have sooo much stuff crammed into this room, my 32" is more than appropriate as anything larger wouldn't fit in my normal field of vision at the distance I'm sitting from it (not that far). Think of it as sitting on the front row at the movie theater.
I changed my mind xD
I'm getting a computer.

Reasons...

1. I'm still not ready for HD, the difference is too small for me to care about, and costs too much to get.
2. I really need a computer.. once school starts my dad's taking back the laptop and I'll be left with an overheating, failing excuse for a computer.
3. I really want to get back to gaming, a SNES is not enough for me, and this gen of consoles is disappointing to say the least.
4. Bioshock
5. Two Worlds
6. Fallout 3
add

Half life 2
C&C 3

to that list. You won't regret it.
Changing the thread to a new computer thread >.>

Components I chose...

Motherboard:
FOXCONN(P9657AA-8KS2H)(INTEL965) INTEL P4-LGA775 / 1066MHZ FSB
125$

Or

MICROSTAR (MSI)(G33M-FI)(INTELG33)1333FSB 775 MB
167$

CPU:
Intel Core 2 Duo (E4400 - 2.0GHZ) / SOCKET 775 / 800MHZ / 2MB CACHE
157$

RAM :
(OCZ2VU8002GK) HIGH PERFORMANCE DUAL CHANNEL 2 GB KIT
160$

And maybe another 1GB for 100$

Video Card:
(RX1650-TD256E) RADEON X1650 256MB
140$

Or

SAPPHIRE (X1950PRO) 256MB PCI-EX
185$

I’ll also get a hard drive. Whatever is on special.
They have a 400GB one for 130$... might get that.
Maybe a tower too.

Good choices? Or does my setup need changing? I haven’t built a PC in years.
Almost forgot how to do it >.<

Total:
Between 600$ - 900$

Wow.. I was expecting a lot more, what should I beef up? Or should I get a good tower with a nice cooling system?

I don’t want to spend more then 1000$ if possible.
But I can go to 1200.
Don't get a 400GB HDD, get two 200GB, trust me on that.

Get the Foxconn Mobo, if you must get one of those two, Microstar is utter trash.

Try shopping at Newegg, they offer MUCH better prices on all of this stuff, you could probably get better brands and save money.

Also, do you, erm, plan on Buying a copy of Windows?
I think I'm sticking with XP for a while.
>.> Who knows what'll happen later <.<

I'm using this store because its reasonably cheap, and near-by, I'm not one that likes buying things via the internet. Maybe I'll make an exception.. depends o how long the delivery takes.. and the shipping and handling...

About the two HDD, is it for the file management? Cause I always split my HDD anyway.
One 200 GB should be enough for me anyway >.>
Whatever I find the best deal on for a HDD I'm getting, I've lived with 80GB my whole life, but with these new games taking up 3GB of space and more at a time I think it won't do anymore...

I've never had a problem with MSI before. ASUS is better though :p

*looks at time and realizes he's going to be late for work*
*dashes for the door*
Whatever you do get make sure you split it in half and get two.

RAID setups are miles faster than a single IDE, It's sort of like running DDR2 in Dual Channel mode - you do notice the difference.

What are you doing for a case?
are you going to be OCing?

go for the x1950 you won't regret it... Unless of course you plan to upgrade to vista and play DX10 games, in which case go for the cheaper one and then upgrade to the unreleased ATI DX10.1 card that'll kick the 8800 Ultra's ass.
I don't know how to Over clock =/

About the case, I want a good cooling system case, so probably lots of fans, I know very little about water cooling, so I'm staying away from that based on my conclusion of "water + electricity = bad"
Does it need a water source? Cause if you do, then that option is already ruled out, since it wont be worth the time and effort to run a water source up and pump the water to the second floor where my computer will be.

For the video card, I don't plan on upgrading to another video card until I absolutely will have to, so I guess I'll go for the x1950.
For an extra 30$ it adds another 256mb memory to it, is that worth it?
I might upgrade again once Fallout 3 comes out.. so I'm guessing in about a year in a half.
naaww,

watercooling is awesome, it works by a pump connected to a reservoir of a coolant (usually water) and then that gets pumped round the computer through various (sealed) heat sinks. There's a few different varieties though, but you'd be best off going for a case with a built in pump and reservoir if you did because after-market water-cooling is usually external and it's not good if someone accidentally yanks it out.

nice example of an integrated case: http://www.specialtech.co.uk/spshop/cust...202&page=1

you may find water cooling to be a little more pricey and a little more difficult to set up, but once you do, you'll have a virtually silent computer that will most likely never overheat (unless you over-clock it to like tripple speed)

But then Zalman make some kick-ass 'silent' coolers that you might want to consider too. (Like this fellar: http://www.zalman.co.kr/eng/product/view...5&code=009)

more memory is generally an über plus. but IMO the x1950 is probably the best DX9 card out there Smile. So go for it Smile

and as a motherboard, this one seems like a much better choice: http://www.computerboulevard.ca/mb/retai...BD-A80-602

Ps. E4400 is an amazing over-clocker, most people can get it to run 50% faster on stock cooling ^^
Hell, I over-clock E4xxxs up to a 999MHz FSB (more often than not up to 1033MHz too) right out of the box when I get them (I've bought three up to now)

and over-clocking is as easy as pie these days, it's as simple as making a number bigger in the BIOS and exercising a little common sense.

One thing you're going to want to get is a tube of thermal grease, the pads on the bottom of the stock cooler aren't good enough IMO. just squeeze a little drop on the centre of the CPU and then clamp down the cooler. if it boots then celebrate and leave the computer on overnight to so that the grease 'burns in'. Thanks to this I cut off ~20 degrees Celsius from my CPU heat (now about 30)
Yes, I was looking at that ASUS MB, but when you look at the RAM slots it says 4 x DDR2 1066mhz which makes no sense since the highest DDR2 is 800, 1066mhz is DDR3 (which is uber expensive) =/

So I don't know if that's a typo, or if I have to somehow find a 1066mhz DDR2 =/

*This is Rawr >.<*
I hate it when my little bro doesn't log off...

you sure?
PC2-8500 = 1066MHz

And you don't have to use memory that is at the speed of the motherboard. You could use 6400 or even 5300.

Whatever you decide to do for memory, get two identical modules, then you can run in dual channel mode.

So will the RAM I posted above fit in the slot?
Yep, that stuff's ideal Smile

and since e4xxx are 200MHz FSB then you can overclock to 266 and the memory will still run at a native speed!
Sounds good.. I'll need your help with overclocking once I buy the parts and put it together. =D
LOL. I came back a little late.

Nvidiaaaaaaaa. haha.... Looks like you got it pretty much figured out.

*looking to hijack for own purposes* or would a seperate thread be preferred?

Anyways...let's talk...periphs!
Turned out I don't have enough cash yet xD
Apperantly takes 6 days for them to cash in a check...
*waits another week*

Nvidea? I never understood how they classed their cards, so I stuck with Radeon.. that, and its cheaper xD
HAHA, when you talk about "classing cards" it's just the opposite for me :X.

It's much easier for me to only keep GT, GTS, and GTX straight. That and the 8800 GTX OC SLI..... obviously you got to be crazy to buy something that will be eclipsed in 6 months by something half the price...but if you want to run full AA and AF at crazy framerates on dual monitors....*passes out*

*wakes up*....so yeah. They have a better logo too.
