Ok, I have yet to find a thread for this, so I'm just gonna make my own.
My wireless connection to my Wii sucks. Period. It doesn't even work half the time. My dad seems to think it's impossible to run it through a landline. I know otherwise, but I don't know how. I really need help with this.
I have more questions as well, but I need this one first: How?
EDIT: Ok, so I need the cable thingy...where can I get it?
And I have a long distance to run between my LAN and my Wii...any thoughts on how I can achieve this?
Well... Before you go into buying new hardware...
What kind of router are you using? Some routers plain don't work with the Wii, and all of the rest (like mine) work amazingly well if you just broadcast them on Channels 1 or 11 instead of the default 6.
But if you've tried all that already... I don't even know how to help. hah
Yeah, my router (Linksys something or other) is listed in the manual and I followed the set-up process and everything but it can't seem to get past the stupid firewall =/
Right now I'm just connected to my neighbor's wireless, but I'm not sure how long he'll let me =P
AFAIK any USB LAN adapter works, but best get a reccomended one.
and you'll need an ethernet cable...
You could buy a second Wireless access point and use it as a booster

Hmmm... If you disable the firewall momentarily, connect your Wii, and turn it back on again, the Wii will probably stay connected via Wii Connect 24.

IE 6 - Tools > Internet Options > Delete Files & Delete Cookies
IE 7 - Tools > Internet Options > Delete > Files and then cookies *not to sure about ie7, i use firefox. And to remove yahoo bars you just go to add remove programs find yahoo toolbar in there, should be towards the bottom, then click remove.
Also about the WiiConnect, Another thing to check is to make sure the router is not using mac filtering, if it is then you will either need to turn it off or enter the MAC from the Wii into the router to allow traffic to pass through.

Routers can be a pain in the but sometimes, it took me 3 hours to get mine set up out of the box once cause i had to reset the settings 3 times to get the wireless to actually work :/, glad you got it working though
now you can have many fun times.

has anyone USED a LAN adapter?
I'm living in an on-campus apartment and using the school's wireless but it's pretty fickle as far as when it wants to work due to massive amounts of interference. I registered my MAC address with the school so it CAN get online, but it only works sometimes, and even then it's pretty touchy...
unfortunately, the school's router is stuck on channel 6 and there's no way I can change it to 1 or 11. The lag I've been getting... whoa, man, strikers is unplayable.
anyway, my question is--if I get a LAN adapter and plug in, will my connection be improved/fixed? The school has a T3 and I'd really like to use it to its full potential
Hm, well my sister's boyfriend has one and it works MUCH better than my wireless, so I'm guessing it would be a good investment.

Lemme know how the LAN connection works for you, I'm debating getting one but part of it depends on how it works with specific connections as opposed to "yours works better than mine" so if there are two successes then I'll prolly get one.
I'm sure it'll be better than what I've got going now. I tried to play a match of strikers with T_L_C today and I started lagging so bad it was running about 30FPM (that's frames per MINUTE) and then I got disconnected with 2:30 left on the clock. Clearly getting a wired connect will improve that crap. But I'll keep you updated anyway
UPDATE! i've got the LAN adapter hooked up and it works like a dream
i can actually play MSC w/ no lag! yay for me
