One Gamefaqs Member seems to believe that Nintendo is starting its achievements system with Metroid Prime 3. He managed to snag some play time and noted that you receive different colored tokens for completing certain objectives like scanning a certain amount or rescuing soldiers.
Red tokens were awarded for scanning enemies and items, blue for acquiring new information and successfully finishing side missions, and gold tokens for overcoming bosses. Said tokens can then be used to unlock bonus content via an Extras menu.
Perhaps the most intriguing of this new information is the “friends voucher,” which can be sent to players in your Wii’s address book to unlock hidden content for both you and your buddies.

I like it. Say what you will, but achievements always extended the life of 360 games. Adding them to games without multiplayer like Metroid Prime is the perfect way to get it started as well as extend the life of this sure to be hit.
