Ok I've gone out (yes I'm a noob still) and got my Wii jacked into the net via wifi now. Besides the downloadable games...WHAT NOW? How do I get my miis to mingle and should I even care? Is there an online forum? Can I virtually walk around some world somewhere? And yes I am being somewhat facetious.
But seriously folks, are the only serious online games so far mario strikers and big brain academy??
Download the internet browser if you haven't, so you can browse forums like that I guess (although i wouldn't really recommend it-typing is kinda hard). You can also use the browser to play flash games at like albinoblacksheep.com, you can't share your Mii's with people unless you have friend codes. And on october 29th, battalion wars 2 is coming out and it has wifi (going to be really fun too). Then brawl coming out on 12/3, I am like 99 percent sure it has wifi. But other then that, there really isn't much else to do yet
The Check Mii Out channel we're supposed to get sometime this year will give you more features to do with your Miis. It's like a contest channel to see who can create the best Mii impresion. Oline games out now other than what Wenis mention are Pokemon Battle Revolution, Mario Strikers Charged, Madden 08. Coming Soon Fifa 08, NBA Live 08, Nitro Bike, NiGHTS, Ghost Squad, Medal of Honor: Heroes 2 (32 players online, and SSBB. That's all I can think of for now.

They said a Surprise would be coming at the by the end of September. We already know about that channel so they could have something special up their sleeves like WiiWare coming early like rumors suggest.

Online gaming isn't gonna truly kick off til Smash arrives. So sit tight and wait patiently.
what about Battalion Wars 2? There aren't even any confirmed online features for Brawl yet.
