So, Let me get this straight... So far, Nintendo has revolutionized and expanded the gaming market, made kids smarter with games like Brain Age, made kids get off the couch with Wii Sports and Wii Fit, and now its bringing families together...Perhaps, we should just give Nintendo the Nobel Peace Prize now.

According to the press release, a staggering 92% of the adults surveyed believe that casual gaming gives them common ground to relate to their children and grandchildren.
Great-grandmother Cheryl Yetter of Paskenta, California plays PopCap's word puzzle game Bookwormâ„¢ with her 12-year old granddaughter and finds that both bonding and educational opportunities are plentiful. "She loves the game, and when she spends the night, it's great fun to play together," says Yetter, 64. "Considering she doesn't really like to read, Bookworm has been a valuable tool, as she's learned a lot of new words and enjoys looking up some of the odd ones in the dictionary."
Other stats reinforce the correlation between gaming and education, with 47% of parents noticing that playing casual games increased their child's aptitude in various categories.

Well I guess i'm that 8% who's family doesn't like video games not matter what the kind.
My mom likes video games =S.

Forced to play with her, i guess it brings us together?
It's true this is the first time I've played games with my dad since Killer Instinct on the SNES...before that it was SMB on NES...
My family played with the Wii for a day, and haven't troubled me for Wii time since.

I must be in that 8%.
Poor LM-X.... I'm sure they'll steal it once you get MP:3. Toungue

My dad plays sports, and can tie me in golf.... Otherwise, no one plays it.
the hell with casual gaming.

too many stupid casual games.

yeah it will bring a disfunctional family together and Nintendo will continue to spew garbage 2nd rate casual games out evey week.
^Definately

Nintendo seems to have completely forgotten about core gamers, especially since Metroid was targeted more towards the casual gamer
Metroid is casual nor hardcore...

we make it seem really hardcore, its just pure favortizm for the most part.
Yeah, well I'm just tired of all these happy-fun colorfulfamily games and making the Wii look like a family console or whatever. OK NINTENDO WE GET IT, YOU CAN MAKE GAMES FOR EVERYONE. but I play the Wii by myself, I'm not out in my living room dancing around with my dad and our wiimotes... I want games with online and blood and HEADSETS for that online.

Also this picture disgusts me. the stereotypical Wii family

The dad: He is very competitive, but he always messes up at playing the game and totally sucks and ends up losing, so its funny! right? WRONG

The mom: Shes okay at the game, but shes just laughing and having fun

The boy: Your typical teenage male, the actual gamer of the family, he is the one that is good at the game and most likely will beat everyone else at it

The girl: She is the last person you would expect to win at the game, but guess what? She does! and thats funn because its so un-expecting right? WRONG

I highly doubt there is any family like that, that actually plays the Wii

Seriously? My mother is a pro at bowling. Many families play the Wii. The positive light that has been cast on the Wii from parents is amazing (from the glowing news reports about how it makes kids get up and move around, articles like this one, etc).
my family totally got into Wii Sports when i had my Wii at home. My dad was always talking big, saying how he'd beat us all at Tennis, so he'd always challenge him to games. Once, he got my mom to agree to play, and she lost the first time, called for a rematch, and then beat him like she was an experienced gamer (first time she'd held a control ever...in her life).

after that, she randomly asked if she could play, and i looked at her weird but let her, and since then we'd have a night every week or so where her, my sister and i would play a few rounds of Mario Party, smash, mario kart, sports...simple things that she could handle during her first summer of gaming.

in short: instead of playing a lot of games on my own this summer, it turned into a family night a lot. normally i'm a solo gamer, but my Wii was connected in the living room, so it was either give up the tv or play with them...i chose to play ^^ my mom actually got pretty good at using Peach in smash...she actually beat me once D: not a hard feat to accomplish, but still...beaten by someone just starting -_- it was a sad day, and they wouldnt let me live it down.
Well I know my dad would most likely never play my Wii, and pretty much all my friend's parents I cant picture playing a wii either. But the point im saying is it seems like Nintendo is making every single game for that typical 'wii family', when I would say the majority of Wii owners simply play it by themselves most of the time.
Well if that 8% is accurate at all, then it wouldn't be the majority.
My family love Wii! We all play in the living room sometimes and like alot of Wiisports and Warioware. I told them about Wiifit and they are quite excited. So the fact they approve of the console is great and it encourages them to buy games for me...so everyone wins. Big Grin

hmmm. perhaps you should get a 360

Wow, that surprises me! Maybe this will make my parents play with me (mom plays some games occassionally, dad played the original Donkey Kong a few times) more.
