That's tough man. Curse you Gamestop.
Look on the bright side, being unemployed means more time to relax.

But seriously, sucks you lost your job man. Sad
Thats crappy, I hope to work in a GAME or Gamestation when im old enough. I would prefer to work in Gamestation because they are all crazy in my local store, and GAME all wear suites which sucks.
lol my local gamestation is way cooler than the GAME
Care to elaborate on what happened?

The GAME and gamestations I been to have all been sorta weird.

At the gamestation thats closet to me it's pretty good. Every time I walk in they are playing game's or talking bout games while serving the people and the guy who is the manager got me a game whe it was supposed to be out of stockBig Grin

no worries...you were looking for a job when you got that one Smile
Sometimes these lead to better deals. For instance, my first job, the project got cancelled.  I was happy with that job, making a nice salary a year, right outta college.  I was sure I'd never get another job.  Now I make more, and I gotta say, this job kicks the crap out of the other job.  So sometimes you benefit from a temporary loss.

BTW:  Info for anyone who wants to go into software engineering.  Go the route of Computer Engineering, not Computer Science in college.  I find myself making substanically more than my friends who went for the easier Computer Science degrees.

Cheers, and best of luck getting a new job,
sc7
so, u got money to live?
Aww man that sucks.

My dad graduated from computer engineering (in the days of mainframes and before PCs) but I don't see that many colleges offering it anymore, and instead aim for Computer Science. It was getting too saturated for me so I went into MIS because it is at least a business degree with a bit more versatility.

Yes, very few Universities do offer Computer Engineering, but I am saying that it pays more. It's also a good idea to stick it out like I did and get a masters BEFORE you work. Getting a nice salary with a Bachelor's degree is tough, but right out of school with a masters clearly pays off, plus not having to go to night classes.

Eh, that 2 years of extra school could be used making money at a lower salary. Depends on how many scholarships you have recieved.

@ JM, sorry to hear about that. I just found an awesome job myself.

A masters is 1 extra year of school. I got my Bachelor's with a Masters in 3.5 years. (I had a year of credits in HS).

Ok. Awhile ago, I was at a point where I really hated gamestop. There where alot of things going on in my life where I needed time off but I couldn't becasue they needed me. That was cool because I've been working with those guys for so long, we've all became really good "friends" people that are my friends, I never turn my back on them in need. But I knew that alot of us wasn't happy with where we were at in life. Me, I figured retail isn't my thing anymore, I've been doing it for now 4 years and It takes alot of time away, I've been meaning to go to school for awhile and just ngiht classes aren't cutting it. And I'm barely going to night classes, because of work. But I realized soon after that, I didn't need to look unhappy it just made things worse so I did my duties the best I can. Before that, i'd make crazy name badges like "Soundwave"... "Min7y Fr3sh" [my gamer tag]... and the infamous "Anti Gamestop" just to name a few. I haven't worn that "anti" badge in so long, I was wearing all my badges one day and I left the "anti" badge at work. I always made sure that the badge wasn't in customer view... it just represented how I felt awhile ago. But the past month I've been wearing either my own name... someone else's name... or no badge at all. So I leave the badge... come to work the next day happy just becase I found another job at the YMCA [making just about the same amount or more.] I was going to tell my boss [former friend] I was going to give my two weeks soon. Soon just because if I did it now... it would be a week before Halo 3 launch and I know hyped launches.... they are hectic and crazy even with security. Plus i wouldn't do that to my friends, that would've been messed up as a friend to do that.

So my boss wanted to chat with me, I thought it was concerning something else in his own life, considering what was going on. So we're in the back room and he asks "Are you ok?"

"Im good. Why do you ask?"

"Just lately, you've been up and down and its strange. You seem like you've changed."

"For the good?"

"Something like that, one moment you want to be left alone and other times, you're doing your job."

"So... whats the problem?"

Pulls out my string of old name badges, "Whats with this Anti Gamestop name badge? You know thats insubordination*?!"

"Oh, well I never wear it any ways... wait... YOU SEEN THAT BADGE BEFORE!"

"No. I seriously haven't."

"No way... we was laughing at it last month along with the other badges we made."

the conversation goes on until he asks, "Do you need some more training? You know there are so many people who would love have your job!"

"Its not about the job! Im here still because we ae friends, right?"

Cold stare. I couldnt believe what I was hearing. It felt as as if my closest friend stabbed me, not in the back.. right in my chest and left the knife there.

He already went to talk to our DM [district manager], and he even said that "I should get fired."

All that time. Works. Sweat. I lost my damn glasses there! Worked so hard, I broke them, i still don't understand how that happened. Day in and Day out dealing with crazy people. When they need me to cover another store, or cover various shifts at once, close the store alone on a weekend, open the store on my day off... Im there!

I never took a day off since Feb. I didnt even take a day off when my grandmother died. I didnt take a full day off from work on my birthday. Or my 2 year annivarsary. I was always there. Gamestop was my 2nd home. I feel as if I got kicked out.

I gave a heads up to all the others. They couldn't believe it.
