Perhaps this is the reason for Wii shortages: As some of you may already know, I spent this past week down at the beach in Wildwood, NJ. Later in the days, I would go to the boardwalk, and in nearly every arcade, there was some type of gimmick to give away a Wii, whether it be in a contest, winning one via a claw machine, or similar-to-lottery drawings. How do these people get so many to give away...?
Probably bought them off ebay
i believe they come straight from the supplier, not some place like wal-mart where some guy waits to buy them out then puts them in the machines. they have to order those just like every store. i'm not sure what priority the Wiis are shipped to though. Nintendo makes the same money either way, and i wouldn't expect Nintendo is getting more publicity from the give-a-ways. i would actually expect stores would get priority
The only time ive seen a Wii being given away and in a machine in the cinemas. Its still there since the Wii launched....
they steal them
They do?
hmm...how can they give them away? Personally, I wold take them and pretend like I stocked the machine...
There were 2 types, one was a huge claw with Wii Boxes right in them, and another had "Capsules" with tags, where you would get a Wii if you're lucky. They have to have at least one capsule containing a Wii or they could get fined.
I almost won one at the arcade one day!
Aw, I hate when you barely miss something. I barely missed an Xbox 360 from a game of luck...
They're all bricked.
I've seen some winners, but it was more luck than skill. They do seem rigged.
theyve got a little box inside that every so many turns youll win you just wait for someone to win and then count how many people it take for it to give a prize again. it was on an episode of brainiacToungue
I always had that conclusion... Its the same with most arcade machines. Its just about the timing that you actually play the machine. Soo if you play a machine that someone just hit the jackpot then after that the machine plays crappy.
My relatives came over today, and we deducted that as well before I saw this. It's a great idea, but it still urks me that so many Wiis go here rather than store shelves.
Its not THAT many if you look at how many Wiis are still being sold to other stores that actually sell them, instead of offering to win them. And besides, it just lets the company offering to let you win it get more money, because alot of people are going to be trying to win it lol
That's true, I'd just like to know how they get so many when they're in such high demand.
i wish that happened over here then i get more because mine is broken
How did yours break?

Yeah right... those things are more like a tax for stupid people. Every time I walk by a stacker machine, i have to feed it some money to try to win the Wii or DS that is hanging there. Every time it takes my dollar, though I've gotten to the very last spot 3 times only to miss.
