So I've gotten my hands on a Wiikey chip and its on its way.

Anyone aware of any complications that this supposed MP3 update will cause my Wii to have?

Joker linked me to a site saying that as long as you have the 3.0e update then you will be fine.

Truth?

I would hate to brick my Wii.
Personally i wouldn't take the risk of modding, because having to buy another Wii if yours gets bricked just doesn't seem worth it. I say have patience
My main problem with patience is that I shouldn't have to be patient due to Nintendo's incompetence.

Plus Joker linked me to a site saying that 3.0e Wii's have no problem with the MP3 update.

I will be importing a US Wii either late this year or early next year. This idea is a place holder.

Anyone confirm what Joker told me?
Well all I'd be able to do would probably be to link you to another site just like joker's, so I'd consider that to be about as much proof as you'll be able to get.
A fellow Wiikey user has confirmed that it works fine over on the Aussie-Nintendo forums. So I'm becoming hopeful.

I just need to decide whether I'll install it myself or pay someone to do it professionally.
Ive been wondering..since i havent had internet for my wii for a while, i dont have the new firmware updates..if i install a wiikey now would i brick it?or if i
play a game with my wiikey without updating first?

You can check the version of the Wii's firmware that you have by going to the settings menu and looking in the top right corner (I see 3.0U which means version 3.0 for the US).

The WiiKey itself does NOT brick your console. The reason consoles are being bricked is because there is no safety measure to prevent another region's firmware from being loaded on your Wii (aside from region coding, which the WiiKey removes so we can play imports). Thus, if you have firmware version 2.2U and you play a PAL game that requires 3.0, it will update your Wii to 3.0E. However, if you were to update manually to 3.0U, and you load that game, it will NOT change your firmware to 3.0E because you already have it or better.

It also should be noted that it does not always brick your Wii to load firmware changes from other regions. Sometimes you'll just encounter errors (duplicate weather/news channels, inability to access menu, etc) that get fixed when your next region specific update comes out.

In other words, it's always best to do a manual update before playing any out of region game for the first time. If you do that, you *should* be okay. I've had two different out of region games load an update (back before we knew all of this) and I've had no problems thus far.

So basically when I get Metroid Prime 3 and have my Wiikey installed I should do a check for local updates first? Then play the game?

I heard there was an update with Super Paper Mario. Will that damage my Wii?
Does the Aussie-Nintendo site have a forum? You should ask around there since people will more than likely have answers for you.
I personally wouldn't take a risk, but I understand where you're coming from; Nintendo shouldn't be responsible for your pain. I'd recommend doing what Kindrik said; checking the Aussie-Nintendo site forums, if they exist. The people there would most likely know a lot more about it.
I did, the person there who does the updating to the Mod thread hasn't updated in weeks xD

Very gay.
