WiiKey's much anticipated 1.9 update has been leaked in beta form.  So far there is no word on an updated configuration disc, but existing 1.2 Config discs are now working with this firmware update.  This is confirmed working for NTSC and PAL Wii's, with authentic and cloned WiiKeys.

WiiKey.cn released this offical statement regarding the leak:

[08-09-03] Wiikey update 1.9b
A leaked version of the wiikey firmware update is available on several websites. While the leaked firmware is indeed working and has all of the announced features, it has not yet been fully tested and does not come with the configuration and recovery discs. A full version will be available from wiikey.cn very soon.

According to the update notes:

Code:
.------------------------------------------------------------------.
                     - wiiKey update v1.9b -
------------------------------------------------------------------
                                                   Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â
"wheres teh update?"
----------------------
right...first off, we like to apologize for the long wait. we
understand that some people have been very upset about it. all
we like to say is that the truth is often a bit more complex
than what people make up on forums, and **** happens. anyways,
those that didn't die of accumulated anger...
welcome to wicked wiikey update!
                                                   Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â
  so what's new ?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  - audiofix fixed o_0
  - dual layer support (no bitsetting required)
  - improved media support (all supported chipsets)
  - full Gamecube regionfree (no-swap/video setup)
  - various "smaller" improvements/fixes
  - workaround for FW 3.0 gameid limitation
    (existing wkb 1.2 discs will boot again)
  - "on the fly" settings for gc games (by holding buttons)
       - toggle audiofix, diskspeed, force NTSC/PAL
                                                   Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â
------------------------------------------------------------------
  Full GC Regionfree
---------------------
Boots GC imports directly using a small apploader hook to setup
the correct video mode. To enable this feature use the new
config disc (1.3). Make sure you also enable the basic region
feature, thats what gets you through the wii menu in the first
place. Unlike a real GC, the NTSC Wii doesnt output PAL50. That
means the game may run but theres no picture. PAL60 games will
work, however you need to enable it. The common way to bring up
the "use PAL60?" dialog on a game is to hold B while booting.
Forcing to NTSC may work as well. PAL consoles output NTSC just
fine.
------------------------------------------------------------------
Download you ask?  Why, it's right here:
So wait, how do I use this?
[/modchipn00bquestion]
I'd like to know that as well.
And also, will this make my soon-to-be-chipped Wii safer from being bricked? If so, yay!
You unzip the file, choose the correct ISO for your region (JPN, NTSC, or PAL), and burn it to a disc (edit: DVD disc).  Insert into your Wii and play it (the Wii thinks it is a Gamecube disc).  You can use a GC controller or the reset button to run the program (short press = A, long press = next/down).  It's pretty straight forward.
so, you have to put a chip in your Wii and then install this update? Sounds too complicated for me. Plus since the update was leaked I don't believe that it should be downloaded. You never know what people put on files like that...
Yes, or purchase a wiikey with the new update already on it. That's how things go! The computer you guy today won't have the update that comes out next week!
WiiKey even confirmed that this beat is working. Heck, I can confirm it's working. The only reason this is making so much news is because (A) it's been forever since WiiKey gaves us a firmware update, and (B) since Nintendo updated to 3.0, we haven't been able to use our config discs.
I'm still 100% concerned about bricking my Wii with the Wiikey xD
Knowing me, it'll happen.
So im confused does this mean i have to have a mod chip still :/
Yes it does, because the Wii won't read non-Wii or non-GCN discs.
There will likely never be a soft mod, so just get a modchip and quit whining.
It's perfectly fine. I'm using it and have no problems as well.
So your using a PAL Wii with the Wiikey chip?
