well...now i have three useless nano paperweights...thats just grand
man do i wish you could trade your old ones in
You know, with Apple, it really wouldn't surprise me if old iPods ceased to function when newer models were released. Apple is great at what they do... rehashing the same products at the same price and getting the same people to keep rebuying them.
Oh wait... it can play video now... which the cheaper Nano clones have been able to do for a while
I am not a big fan of apple and have so far restrained from buying an ipod, i just have one of those cheap $30 dollar mp3 players with 512mb of memory, it hold plenty of music for my run and i don't even have it filled halfway. So far i am finding no use for the ipod, sorry. I will admit that it does look nice though

yeah, i am a sucker for slick packaging
Before you cast any more judgement. I'm not some arse who has an 80GB iPod with 100 songs and a movie trailer on it. My iPod has 1.2GB free space. And the content is pretty much legal (Perhaps the odd MP3 from elbo.ws)

Doesn't change the fact that iPods all suck.
I have been saying this all along, but in all fairness, it's not just iPods, it's Apple products in general. As a qualifier, I'll also note that if you are stupid, have money, and like to be babied with your electronics, told what you need, and appear to be hip only to be though of a sheep incapable of real technical savvy, then Apple is the perfect company to buy products from.
In other words, if you like to be told what you need and you enjoy a nice form factor and UI and you have no idea how limited or overpriced this stuff really is, and you don't want to know, then feel free to just ignore me and keep on keeping on.
OS X is a very nice OS, though.
i love apple this PC is my last one then by the end of the year im going MAC and i want that ipod touch

Can anyone say that if somebody gives you a iPodwhateverthenewstone that you wont take it.
Personaly I whould
id take an ipod over any mp player not the last generation video cuz mine broke in months

I used to dislike iPod, and held off buying one for quite a while (I had a creative zen).
There used to be two good reasons to not get an iPod.
-Crappy Batteries
-You can get similar storage with competitors
Both issues have been blown away, with the newest iPods seemingly allowing 40h of continuous play and 160GB of storage. There just isn't competition any more.
But I have to say, the iPod Touch looks like a waste of time. Why anyone would pay double for 10% of the storage space and a few gimmicks is beyond me.
well it is wifi and all those i phone bells and whistles minus the the cell phone of course
im just saying tht this isnt fair to the people, like what happened when MS stopped making the V.1 360's without the public knowing so people were still buying th eolder model and they were mixed with the newer ones... its actually happening again with the Falcon chip.
every 6 months there is a new iPod.... at first it was great now its just bad business and sadly people continue to buy them... I'd love a iPod touch but looking at the HDD space and compare it to a Zune or a older model... I'd go for the older ones instead.
Prinny is right, too bad you can't trade in your old ones for some kinda value to get a new one. youre just stuck with it.
i think the touch will be great i mean web browser, youtube, and a wi-fi store sounds better than the zunes zune to zune sharing thing my second choice would be the new nano tho

Everything I've always felt, but put into words my eloquence can only dream of. XP
I have an 8 GB microphoto. Superior sound quality. And drag and drop >>>>>>> windows i-tunes
Alright, there are some strange perspectives in this thread.
@drew102e
Exactly how are they paperweights? Don't they still work, and do the job you bought them for at the time you first got them? They still do the job, and Apple still supports them. It's the natural progression of the industry, eventually, things will become outdated by model, much more frequently than format. Look around, your DVD player, TV, PC Montor, many of them aren't made anymore, even if you got it last month. Some of these get single production runs, when they hit shelves, they're already out of manufacturing production. They still do their job.
@juniormints
That's what the free market is about. The consumer should be smarter. And for trading the iPods in, they do what you bought them for, and that's what you have. If you don't like them, shouldn't have bought them in the first place.
@halojames
The iPods aren't > everything else. They run an unneccisarily bloated kernel for the job (Darwin is not meant for mobile platforms, trust me, the source was available for a long time, and I've looked at it).
They lack support the best, by far, lossy audio codec, and only iRiver has support. (Without modding the iPod). OGG Vorbis. OGG Vorbis is VBR by standard, and it's by far the best lossy audio codec, far more efficient than AAC or MP3, plus it's open source.
The screens also suck, as well as the scratchy surface.
Even halo and sex?

oh thats a hard one
ill prolly ask for an iPod touch for christmas tho
LOL....OGG FTW!
3 letter words FTW!
and people who say i-pods look better.....you know you're just buying a case to put it inside anyways.
Also, I find the "rounded" zens are actually more comfortable in hand and pocket than the sharper, even if thinner, i-pods are.
And am I the only one that still listens to the radio 0_o.... I love my morning shows.
yeah u are radio is useless when u can have about any song u like on that ipod

and people who say i-pods look better.....you know you're just buying a case to put it inside anyways.

Exactly, there goes the benefit about how thing it is...
Radio is not useless, it's how I find some good new songs.
