i got a silver iPod classic yesterday to replace my white 30gb 5.5G iPod. I love it, it is really awesome!
80 or 160?

and how's the new menus? Do they work well?
i heard this a while back but ipod didnt confirm it yet. it was just a rumor all of 2 months ago. then a few weeks ago probably just around the same time juniormints wrote this thread, i heard on a local AM radio station (1010 WINS NYC) that ipod was to release the "itouch" or something to that degree.

no offense but its a waste. why do people feed into this crap? cpt mccloud is right- its the iphone without the phone. and whats even sadder is that idiots that OWN the iphone and dont wanna pay "extra" for the features and get another 400page phone bill will buy one of these and then realize that their 500$ phone can do the same sh*t

HOWEVER i can think of ONE good thing.....the kids. more spoiled children that cry and beat the hell out of their liberal parents for a itouch. before it was all about the ipod video that parents were beating themselves over because their kid was the only child on the block or in school without one and this year they can do the same

too expensive for a child and also a dumb product

way to steal our money ipod!

zune ftw!

rant over
The iPod Touch is a joke.

The iPod Classic, always will be the best MP3 player available.
In terms of memory capability, yes, the Touch is a joke. In terms of capability, well, it's a bit more impressive.

Yes, it is pretty much an iPhone without the phone, which means it still retains the UI and the high resolution screen. It has WiFi and can download songs and movies directly to the device from iTunes.

Assuming it is hacked like the iPhone, it will have tons of 3rd party applications.

It would be a nice little device for someone that doesn't need just a ton of space (more than a nano, not quite a classic), and would like an "almost" PDA with WiFi.

On the downside, it only supports video output of 480i/576i, while the classic and even the new nano support progressive scan otuput! The iPhone has been locked out of doing either.
yeah but the reason the nano sold so well is because it was so small. it was better than the shuffle because it had a screen and people that didnt have a big movie collection or a lot of songs found it useful.

so why the itouch then? whats the point? for the same price (probably) wouldnt you want the video with more capabilties? granted its got wifi and everything to itunes but whats the point? most cellphones now adays have MP3 software that you can do the same IE download songs to your phone and play them for about the same price as itunes.

again its a waste.
how much do they cost?

you're really thinking for the Touch in the wrong way. It's NOT a classic with less storage space.. it's a completely different kind of device.

It's a WiFi capable portable web browser with a 3.5" screen, multitouch interface, wireless integrated iTunes and YouTube capabilities, all with an iPod Nano built in. It basically does EVERYTHING better than a classic, except that it can't hold as much stuff. All of the memory is flash vs movable also. Until you've actually used one, you have no idea what all of the fuss is about.

And, of course, the two devices aim at two different markets. If they competed directly, then Apple would be stupid for releasing it. Everyone will see more value in one than the other.

go to the store and all will be revealed

Ok, why does everyone leave the Zune like completely out but one guy. 30GB support for MP3 and videos, and a firmware update supposedly on the way, and theres a Zune 2 coming. What is wrong with you guys? iPoo'd crazy?
30GB.

It's just not enough.

Plus the iPod does more (except the Wi-Finess, but I don't really care for that anyway) and there are way more accessories available for them. You can get millions of unnofficial docks and hi-fis, etc.
Ok,
I got the 80gb iPod classic, when I first turned it on and synced my music, TV shows etc up to it, when I highlighted for example 'music' or 'video', the menu transition took a few seconds to change. Until the iPod 1.0.1 software update came out, I have noticed it being alot faster now.
Overall, I think the classic is great but I think I prefer my 5.5g iPod which I sold off. Several reasons for this is that I love the good ol' white, all the games I downloaded which don't work on the classic, more reliable, a lot higher volume etc.
So if you can get a 5.5g iPod, I say get it. The classic just isn't that good, maybe it will improve more when more updates are released for the current model.
This is my honest opinion.

oooh, thanks for that Smile

I'll stick with my 5.5G 80gig then, but I'm running out of space Sad

See above minus the "running out of space" bit. I still have tons of CDs to rip to my iPod but I'm lazy and haven't gotten around to it yet.

I'm dying to see all the code that's going into this. I wonder what version of webkit they plan to merge into future iPod touch updates to keep the browser at an up to date level of support. The only thing about the touch is, once the hardware gets out of date, many of it's selling points will be rendered completely useless. I still think an iPod classic is a better long-term digital music player investment. It's all in what you need.
I got the black 80 classic (after going back and forth on what to do) because it has metal in the front and doesn't scratch. I have over 40 gigs of music.......so since the 60's are no longer around, I got the next one up. For the price, it's what I want. I sold my second gen nanos and got a good chunk of the money for this iPod.

I love the "cover flow" feature. I like the sound quality. I took my black nano and my new classic with me in the car, and played the same exact mp3 from each player. The Classic was louder and sounded fuller in my car. There was much more bass. (I have it turned all the way up on both iPods and enhanced the Equalizer).

I am getting a cover for my new iPod so that it doesn't get dinged on when I am in the car. I drive a lot, as it takes me time to get to whatever store I am working at that day, so I find it quite nice to have all of my music with me, since I am not sure what "music mood" I will be in when I am travelling.

We had the older 80 gig at my store, but I don't like how it scratches up easy, so I opted not to buy that one. I think I got to the point where I wanted a brand new one so I would know it hasn't been dropped before.
I'm dying to see if the coverflow is hardware accelerated on the new classic/nanos.
Coverflow is slow and unsmooth, kinda sucks really.
