In an interview Nintendo's Satoru Iwata talks a bit about the possibility of a Wii Sports 2.

Excerpts from interview:

Question: With Wii being such a big hit, I’m sure you’ve been asked many times what new sports will be included in the sequel of Wii Sports.

    Iwata: Many times. (laugh)

Question: It’s probably the traditional way to release a sequel, but I suppose Nintendo isn’t planning to do that. Maybe a sequel may be released sometime in the future, but probably not soon, and probably not by simply adding a couple of new sports.

Iwata: We’re not going to take such an easy way, not by including seven new sports in the game since Wii Sports has five. We’re not closing our doors to the possibility of a sequel, but it’s definitely not coming out soon.

Question: The contents will be so predictable if it came out soon..

Iwata: Yes, like “let’s improve the graphics a bit more”.

Question: Or, “let’s stick the controllers to our feet and play soccer”.

Iwata: Or maybe sign contracts with professional athletes and create Mii that looks just like them.

    Question: Why not? (laugh)

Iwata: If you start making such decisions without thinking, you start doing the easy stuff. You disengage yourself with the pursuit of true entertainment.

Question: Nintendo won’t do the easy.

    Iwata: No.

WTF? You mean predictable like Mario Party 8??? How many Nintendogs are there? Jeez, Nintendo just give us what we want, sequels to great games we love. Dont act like you dont sometimes do the predictable.

They keep churning out Mario Party games because people keep buying them. I call Nintendo smart... they could always give it a year (aka Madden or Tiger Woods), but retaining the simple number keeps the value higher. As for Nintendogs, I believe there is only one actual game, but several versions that differ on the dogs that are available at the starting point. I imagine that the Pokemon games are similar to this, with different versions being released at the same time.

They could make a Wii Sports 2 and add nothing more than online play, and I would buy it. Heck, they could make a tennis standalone with online play and I would buy it Toungue
i know, i would buy a wii sports 2 with jacks and tether ball, which is why they should crank it out cuz they crank out other 'predictable' sequels IMO
Blah @ predictability. As you said Drew, just give us what we want; good games. I'm looking forward to a Wii Sports 2. Hopefully it's online compatible and there's hockey on it. Big Grin
I don't predict that Nintendo will give us headsets for online gaming. Does that mean they will give us them?
Releasing games for 10p each wouldn't be too predictable... Big Grin

But seriously, I bet they release a Wii Sports 2 within a few years, even though Wii Fit is practically the sequel anyway.
I dunno if I'd buy the sequal. As it stands they already have good games in the current Wii Sports. So why make a new version? I'd spend more money and time on a new franchise as they're doing w/ Wii Fit.
I think they will milk this as well.

$$$ = Spin Offs

people love to buy that crap.
AKA Mario Party. People just won't stop buying them, whether they are lame or not. Some are good, but most are bad.
No wai Nintendo!

Does this mean you'll stop making crappy Mario Party games? No. Because that must be a different kind of predictable >_> My bad...
Wii Sports + Online Play = A purchase from me.
that would be fun
