The latest update to the Smash Bros. Dojo! delivers details on the online multiplayer portion of the game and dammit, friend codes are still in effect. Every day I wake up and rush to the PC hoping to read an announcement about them going away, and every morning I die a little inside. Brawl players will be able to link up with their friends via impersonal strings of random numbers to battle it out online, complete with personalized, pre-entered messages mapped to the d-pad for taunting purposes. You can also opt to play random strangers, but without the personalized messages to keep the child predators at bay. Stats aren't kept for battles with strangers either, so you get all the fun of beating up random people with none of the joy of taunting or indeed any proof that the match ever happened at all. Joy! Visit the Dojo yourself for more details and pretty pictures, and remember, "If you think of your opponent as a simple scarecrow, any psychological barriers may melt away."

Ino its beyond the joke. I see how Nintendo are trying to protect younger gamers and all, but isn't that what parental controls are for?
However the friend mode does look good. The pre-saved taunts look good. I just hope that Nintendo aren't making excuses for lag already, I understand that the futher away you are the weaher the connection, but can't that be improved? And I certainly don't see why they are telling us how and why it may lag before the game is already out. i think they maybe worried about how the game will work and adapt to online play.
yep we all knew it was online. now its just set in stone
errr, i'm not fond of friend codes, i only have one on mine Toungue, But anywho, even with never having played a smash bros game with the exception of in best buy This looks kinda fun. And even though you have to deal with friend codes it'll be nice to be able to start up a match with some friends.
Well its good to have the official confirmation, but wow... we can't even look at eachothers names? We could in Mario kart and metroid... come on Nintendo :/ This pretty much proves that Nintendo treats everyone as 5 year olds.
quit being so crabby about this guys--AT LEAST IT'S ONLINE
Yeah but I don't think that we should "just be happy we have it", if it were on PS3 or Xbox, no doubt there would be names, rankings, etc. But apparently Nintendo doesn't like to do that sort of thing, for some reason
because they appeal to everyone and parents dont want their kids being stalked or anything. nintendo expects the older generation to be more "mature" and just get on with it...
finally....online ftw....friend codes ftl....but at least we know that not all Wii games will have friend codes *cough*MoH: Heroes 2*cough*....
Yay it's online
Im glad that it is online but also pretty mad about how like u guys said Nintendo treats all of there customers like little kids. Couldnt they just add a parental lock or something for those that are actually a little kid?
I like the fact that we can play against people who aren't in our list, but I'm quite tired of Nintendo thinking that pedophiles are buying the Nintendo Wii to prey on children. Everyone knows they buy cotton candy and skittles...at least that what Wikipedia says. Wink
nintendo = children it always has but they want to shy away from that and make it more adult like and have been doing that for years.

theres parental locks on the system itself. just dont enable the web either and the child can not go online.

also theres probably no voice talk so itll be like mario strikers. nothing to worry about.......

however im kind of excited that this has online play. im going to buy this game after playing the n64 version. i think its a neat game and i liked mario strikers with its online play so we'll see Smile
Yey, it's online! Woo!
i'm a little wary of the online modes but Sakurai said that there was more Wi-Fi modes that haven't been announced yet. the only thing I'm mad about is the whole can't see the name during the fight. They even had that in PBR so why not Brawl?
I personally think it's kind of dumb that our stats won't be stored, but I'd have to guess that Nintendo will be doing more of that come next year (prays).
not excited.
I don't get it, what are you not excited about...Brawl online or Nintendo's next year projects JM?
I wonder if Nintendo will let us voice chat with our friends at least. That would be good I guess
I just hate how u dont know who your playing when you play world wide.

If they dont want kids to be able to talk online, they should use the parental controls for that. Being able to talk to your oponents is half the fun of online play. Sure u can talk to friends. but its not the same.
