It's no secret the Nintendo DS has been lapping the Sony PSP in Japan. However, PSP's seen a big boost recently in the form of PSP Slim, reports Famitsu. Since the system's soft launch only two weeks ago, the system has sold an impressive 250,702 standalone units. The new SKU also sold over 75,000 units in a LE bundle of Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core, bringing the grand total to over 325,000 slim PSPs sold.

If this momentum continues, the PSP could even outsell the DS on a monthly scale in Japan, a feat that Sony hasn't managed to achieve in some time. Time will have to tell if the money train keeps rolling with the sleak new design, or if it runs out of steam.

It's gonna take a long time/if ever for Sony to outsell the DS in Japan, but there's no doubt those new slim PSP's and Crisis Core are selling like hot cakes.
I don't think it will be selling more units per month than the DS since it still has really no huge hit games on the system yet
Once Crisis Core dies down, then so will the PSP sales. But its a nice boost for them to receive just before the English speaking world gets Phantom Hourglass.
Congrats Sony. but i don't think they actually have any plans that will make the PSP outsell the DS. Still, maybe I'll buy one of these new fangled PSPs and see what I think of it...
I'm still holding back. Although there is nearly enough good games to convince me.
Crisis Core = Reason to get a PSP in japan.
You can't buy something for one game. It just doesn't make sense.
Hence why I barely want a PSP.

Theres only about 4 games I want for the PSP that are prob coming out in 2008.
well the new daxter bundle has been selling like crazy at my work so i can see it becoming more popular here in the states but its still way behind the DS
It has to a lot better than this to beat the DS. Still its good to see it might actually give the DS a run for its money.
