A storm is brewing in both the Xbox and Bungie forums, where over a hundred posters have now verified that their copies of Halo 3 are causing disc read errors. lockups, and even the dreaded RRoD on their Xbox 360 consoles. From what I can glean from skimming through the 22 pages of replies to the original poster's problem, most of the people affected purchased the standard edition, though a few are reporting having the problem on both the standard and the LE version of the game. Some believe the discs are corrupting the data on the hard disc itself, as some have had their game discs replaced twice or more now with similar results, and removing the hard disc seems to keep the error from occurring with some posters. Some can load the game fine and play it for short bursts before the problem occurs, while others are finding the issue limited to certain game modes. Check out the forum threads for more info on the problems had, and hopefully some official response will be given about the issue soon.

I was curious if anyone on here had had this issue or if everything is cool?
Yikes bad news, I was looking at picking up a 360, halo 3 and a few other games within the month, but looks like i may hold off on halo 3 then for a bit and stick to bioshock or something.
Can't imagine the reprecussions for Microsoft and bungie if it is some coding blunder on there parts. Sounds like it could be expensive.
my friend played it 8 and a half hours without turning it off and its fine lol
I think this is really too bad if the problem is a big one. This coupled with Halo 3 reportedly running at "640p" (yup 640p) and being upscaled for HD. I'm not a huge fan of MS, but I wanted this launch to go well, because I do really like the Halo series.
Yeah I have no idea what could have caused it, but it has to be something on those discs whether its just a certain lot of them or not, but for that many people to be having problems then something went wrong somewhere at least with some discs.
I wonder if we're going to hear that some of the games made at particular manufacturing plants may have caused this problem. Perhaps some lower quality DVDs were used for the game?
Either way this is just what MS didn't need.
Thats what i was starting to think. It has to be some isolated problem if its not effecting everyone. But yes your right this could spell doom for MS, and they have enough crap to cause trouble right now too.
Not that i would mind seeing MS take a tumble

Ah I didn't say this spelled doom for anyone. 360 gamers are patient people. When you hear about people in the past that have sent systems in time after time to be repaired then you know they'll stick with that console. Hopefully whatever this problem is, Microsoft will made amends quickly and will be forgiven.
lol yeah, i think doom was wishful thinking, but i'm sure the issue will be resolved fairly quickly. And i'll still probably be getting my 360 within a month or two still

I'm guessing any issues were generally with faulty disc. Any RROD problem are probably from left over 360's that haven't been sent in to be repaired. I've only heard about a couple situations where other games wouldn't plan on the 360, so I wouldn't be too afraid to go pick one up around Christmas time.
my friend played it 8 and a half hours without turning it off and its fine lol
same here not to mention the hours i play online every day.
I wonder if this is only happening with the discs that got scratched in the limited edition cases

No this is another issue, from the article most of the discs with the problem are the standard edition, and like gft said it is more than likely issues with faulty discs.
um... is it bad that I felt a little leap of joy when I read this?
damn... I AM a fanboy

i pity people who bought their 360 with halo 3, cause some of them will end up with messed up 360s and games. that would blow
-happily sits overlooking 360 problems-
-unhappily learns about yet more delayed releases for the european wii player-
Wow, for such a big game it sure is having its flaws, I would of thought microsoft would of tried to make this perfect but with rumours of the pixel counting, this and such it makes you think.

with this many people playing online, it's safe to assume that this isnt a widespread issue.
I haven't had a single problem with my 360 that can be blamed on hardware or Halo 3.
Command & Conquer 3 on the other hand has a lot of bugs that occasionally freeze up my 360. But that's a different story.
i played it for 6 hours yesterday no problems yet

Yeah, I don't think it's shipment specific. I know two people who bought it one after the other, and one 360's broke and the others perfectly fine. And the broke one is actually newer than the one that is fine.
