Everyone remembers the line within Metroid Prime 3: Corruption stating that Metroid Project 'Dread' is nearing the final stages of completion. Everyone seemed to think this indicated the long awaited sequel to Metroid Fusion was finally about to be announced.

This doesn't seem to be the case. According to Mark Pacini, director of Metroid Prime 3, "its [the dread reference] not what you think it means". He goes on to say that it was something that was "overlooked" and that they have "no information about the hand-held games."

According to Pacini, it is actually a reference to a narrative thread that Retro decided to remove from the final version of Metroid Prime 3. The fact is that the scanable object was just something they forgot to take out and that it is "a complete and utter coincidence".

not surprised, yet it could be a cover-up
Lets break it to lmx lightly, ok?
and how do we do that?

We could kill him and never let him find out or we could device different plots
that don't involve man slaughter?

So what? Who cares what Retro say?

Another Metroid is inevitable.
i think it's a cover up Toungue

who references a narrative thread as 'dread'?

Another metroid is inevitable.

This just basically says that dread isnt that metroid.

Dread may have just been a codename anyway.

I expect a Metroid DS within the next couple of years. 2D would be ideal.

2-D would be sweet, classic =)

And I don't think it'll ever be ruled out. Look at Zelda and Mario. Both have ventured back to classic styles with a hint of freshness to them (New Super Mario Bros. and Phantom Hourglass) so it is entirely possible that Metroid could return in a 2D/3D sort of world. And it would be awesome.
New super mario bros was the 1st thing i thought of when i read your post, that worked out soo well for nintendo...why not try it with metroid
Metroid is one of the only big nintendo franchises yet to make its way to ds..

They have had zelda, mario 64, super mario bros, mario kart, star fox etc.
Metroid Prime Hunters doesn't count for anything? It wasn't made by Retro, but it's still a DS Metroid game.
W_R has a point, even though MP:Hunters wasn't by Retro it is still a part of the franchise. Especially the Prime series.
Yeah your right, meh I will change my message to cruis'n hasnt made its way to DSToungue

Cruis'n wii FTW!

Wasnt there a metroid pinball too?
There was indeed, which I hear got was met with pretty good feedback.
i looked at it on the shelf. smiled. then frownd. then put it back.

i hate pinball games.
lol pinball gets really boring after a while Toungue
*sigh*

I wasn't saying the game itself was amazing, just that it had gotten decent feedback compared to other pinball games.
