We're approaching almost a year since we heard of the 65nm "Falcon" chipset allegedly scheduled to appear in Xbox 360s, designed to provide cooler and quieter systems. Last Spring, it was rumored Microsoft was slated to release the chips this Fall, and rumors are bound to come true once in a while.

According to Engadget, users in the official Xbox forums found the new chips by cracking open their Halo-branded 360s from lot #734. There's no word on performance upgrades like quieter systems, but the new chip sets should be cooler running than the previous ones. If you're wondering if you happen to have one of the new chip sets, MRCUR at the Xbox forums has set up a thread on what to look for.

Well this is definately a good thing. There is nothing better than a cooler running 360. Hopefully they can start putting these out into more systems as soon as possible.
Is opening up the system like that (and im guessing voiding the warrenty) the only way to find out if it is 65nm?
I wonder if the Halo edition 360's were the first to get it.
Found that pic on the internet. now all Microsoft has to do it stop the 3 red light problem.
isn't the 65nm supposed to stop the RROD problem?
From what I have read yes. I guess there is more to the problem.

Any Premium (Or halo system) with HDMI will have the 65nm chipset. I don't know about the elite's yet.

I've read that those have different/added heat sinks in them, but aren't actually the 65nm falcon chipset.

hmm... I just made that as an educated guess.

I figured if they're going to change the mobo enough to put HDMI on, why not put the 65nm chips on too?
There's another thread in this area that talks about that, and people were very surprised that their new HDMI 360's they bought had different heat sinks in them, but not the Falcon chipset. I guess Sony isn't the only one making a large number of different SKU's.

Here's that other thread with the info...---click here---
