Hey guys,
I got a new laptop last week that came pre-loaded with Windows Vista Home Premium. I love it and haven't experienced any problems like other users say they have. I really don't see why they are complaining, in my views, it is really fast, the programs I have used are compatible, I love it and the aero interface is beautiful.

Express your views here and if you have Vista, what edition do you have?

I'm running on Vista Ultimate. From a software engineer's standpoint, it is NOT bad like most of the script kiddies who wish they were reall programmers on places like /. say.

You probably do like it, if all of your apps are working, it's a nice looking OS, with nice updated apps, and its MUCH, MUCH better under the hood. The only real problem is that many older apps are broken from the new improvements, but they will make future apps better, and its still more compatible than linux or Mac updates ever are.

I like Vista, and I use Windows as my main OS, mainly because linux doesn't have a consistent GUI, and Mac hardware is a rip, but Windows does the job.

This is a highly popular thread.

I agree.

Yep, I shall buy vista-loaded lappy for next year.
Hmm, I found a reg hack on the internet that lets me download service pack 1 through windows update lol. Haven't noticed anything different, maybe a bit more responsive at times, but that's it really.
requires IE for updates = Suck...
Err vista, next year sometime i get to upgrade about 800-900 computers with it on the base. Not looking forward to that.

Vista is pretty and although I may say bad things about it really isn't too bad, just gotta get used to where everything is at compared to xp. But I do have to say that Vista is quite the memory hog.

Idle ram is useless ram. When you need it, Vista makes it available. It's memory management. I use Vista on my PC and Lappy with zero complaints.

yeah i'm sure i'll get over my apprehensions eventually, but part of it may be to that i don't feel like paying that much for it when i already have a copy of xp that isn't broken....yet.

Vista doesn't require IE for updates.. Vista has it's own Windows Update app thing that downloads all the updates through that.

IE Vista > Firefox these days

Firefox 3 is bloat.
IE vista is part of the operating system so it's practically no overhead

Meh. I'll take neither. I prefer a good webkit implementation (Safari or Konqueror), On Vista, IE7 is NOT integrated with the OS. The whole reason IE6 was so terribly insecure was for that reason. True, IE7 is well intertwined, as it comes pre-installed, but now it's removed from main parts of the system, and operates almost as an independent application.

Still, IE7 has almost as much overhead as FF, as does Safari. The only good application these days on resources is opera, which, well, has it's share of other issues.

Agreed all of them tend to have their own issues. I personally don't have too much of a preference although i am running firefox right now and its kind of grown on me. IE tends to piss me off more then firefox does.
I've tried using Firefox for the third time now, I'm really trying to like it, but I just can't. Just plain old boring IE7 for me Wink

So yeah, does anyone use Vista Aero here? I love Aero, I have it on the pink theme, it looks nice and goes with my brown and pink wallpaper I created (Take a look at my desktop on the 'post your desktops here' thread). Pink is my fave colour so yeah, it's all good Big Grin
Nothing wrong with pink.....i have pink ummmm uhhhhh, where do i have some pink.............oh yeah in my daughters room Big Grin d:

But on the related topic i have played with the aero and it is quite nice. Very pretty.
:O I love pink, there's nothing wrong with the colour! I have pink t-shirts and everything, and pink windows live messenger skin, pink aero style, pink font in msn, and other stuff pink!

*Ahem* So yeah, Aero is pretty and it works well with my BRAND NEW LAPTOP which I purchased recently..
I wish I had a laptop, actually wish i could find the parts to just build my own, can build for cheaper than buying.
I guess, laptop's are good if wireless is your thing Toungue But I love wireless, how would I be able to get on the net in my room without the thing? Probably by wires but pssshhh to them..
Yeah, laptops are great, I have one with a purple lid. It's a bit too awesome..
Yeah well my desktop pretty much doubles as another gaming console for me, and i have yet to find a new laptop and can out do my pc even after a year. Although i don't run vista.

Vista = expensive
XP = free for me
