After reading some threads on Neo GAF, I'm incredibly amused at this development.

The most high-end tech *barely* meets the recomended settings for Crysis. Unless you build a $20,000 computer, you are NOT running that game at ANY more than 30 frames a second, and even then, you'll have to tone down lighting and particle effects.

There's already a good number of jokes running around that Valve and id have a far better thought process on engines than Crytech could ever dream of. After all, anyone's computer can run Half Life 2 at a decent clip, and id's new Tech5 engine is built to be as flexible as possible... this thing Crytech built only makes people cry.

You'd better hope EA's investing in this engine, because it's gonna' need a shitload of help looking at this.
Ya, I read something about it in CAD-comics... I looked at his specs, and got majorly pissed.

I just bought my computer about a month ago, and I already know I probably won't even be able to play the game in medium settings with a good frame rate.

But hey, I want Fallout 3, and I'm not upgrading again until then.
Lol thats why i built my pc. But i'm still looking forward to this game, should be able to run it at medium settings hopefully.
This is kind of crazy. I mean it's one thing to have a game that is showcasing DirectX10 graphics, but if the average directX 10 system can't even play it, then what's the point.

I don't see a bunch of people going out to buy high end graphics cards or ram just to play this game.
yeah I agree. to me its almost like they are just trying to make a point of having the best looking game out there, because its just going to hurt themselves that no one is going to buy the game since no ones system can even run it!
Upgrading graphics card in ~1 month,

Might go quadcore too if my pay allows it.
Yeah i should really upgrade to a new vid card, but mine is only a year and a half old. And this will be a game i will definately be picking up. I'm not missing out on it thats for sure.
They want my immortal soul? Sure.

This engine is going to kick major ass once it gets a few decent games on its belt. Crysis is that kind of game which well sell more as time goes on, because the specs will become less demanding.

We just need to think, imagine Unreal engine 4 once it finally gets proper development.
Agreed, this is one of those games that will get grown into. And the engine has potential.
I thought from what Crytech had said you didn't need a massively powerful machine to play it decently. They said they've made it so it runs on 3 year old PC's but won't be able to run with maxed out everything for another 2 years...which is kind of stupid but still, most people should be able to run it even if it is on low or medium and it'll still look pretty good.
I guess no matter what is said about this game i am still really excited about it. I better hurry and finish MP3 and get my bf2142/guild wars fix cause those games will probably get dropped as soon as crysis hits.
Actually checked my specs, I shoudl be able to play in medium settings with decent fps.

(P.S. I did build my PC, to the best my pocketbook could do)

* GPU - NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS/640 or similar

okay, so I need a new graphics card, probably a new cpu too, because recommended probably means medium settings
Yeah i read that article from gamespot with the spec layout finally and it looks like i'll be able to run at least medium settings Big Grin

.....i still wish i had my dx10 vid card and a quad core processor. Sad
Qud core would be nice, but is way too expensive atm.

I have the recommended specs. ^_^
8600GTS though >.<
I knew i should have pulled out the extra 100$ for the 8800...
w/e, I was planning on getting a new vid card anyways when Fall Out 3 comes out. It'll grow on me. (Crysis)

Oh well i meet all the Recomended specs + a bit, so when i get it i'll let you guys know how it runns, tho i have a feeling i might start looking at a mobo processer upgrade.

does anyone have a link to any benchmarks for kit with crysis?

Yeah i'm thinking bout upgrading to an 768mb 8800 GTS so i can pass over the recommended, but i'm sitting just under rec right now.
The new 8800 GT will get you over recommended Smile
I thought the GTX series were the new ones? The cheap affordable new ones, but a little less video memory.
Naw, GTX were the originals

They released the new 8800 GT with what was going to be the 9-series chipset (65nm manufacturing, higher clock)

It just has a few less shaders than the GTX and a little less memory (more than the GTS)

it runs almost neck and neck with the GTX

and best of all, it's a single slot design, so you can SLI them with ease
