At a press conference today in Japan, Nintendo announced two new Wii Channels to join the current lineup.
First up we have the announced at E3 "Mii Contest Channel". This channel will include a plaza where you can take home other peoples Mii avatars, and better yet, you can enter your own Miis into competitions and fashion contests. One competition will more than likely be a celebrity challenge contest, where consumers could make a Mii that looks as close as possible to a celebrity. Michael Jackson or Adolf Hitler anyone? It is not yet clear if the previously declared name "Check Mii Out Channel" will stick in English regions or not, as this name was translated from Japanese. Many people including this reporter remain confused about this so-called "channel". Judging from images arising (link below), it seems to look just like an add-on for the Mii Channel, especially with the plaza system. Confused? You bet 'ya!
Next up is the long awaited dream for Nintendo DS owners everywhere. The Minna no Nintendo Channel (Everybody's Nintendo Channel) will allow DS users to download demos and promotional videos to their handheld straight from a WiiConnect24-enabled Wii console. This is similar to the already established DS Download Stations across the world, where a person may walk into a selected game store and download a temporary demo or video to their DS. Now you can do this in the comfort of your own bathroom! The service will also include search features that assist in finding games that suit your needs based on a database that's built out of information from other Wii players.
Both of the channels will be available in Japan in November, and judging by past channel releases, the rest of the world shouldn't have to wait much longer.

Wow I've been waiting on downloadable content for my DS for like... forever now. This was an announced feature before launch, so I've always wondered what happened to it.

Wii's online will be USEFUL at last. And the ability to look at Wii trailers and rate games sounds super special fun.
I doubt they will put games on that often..but yay.
If we support the channel, then Nintendo will be sure to keep it updated.

For me the second one is not useful for i have not a DS. I kinda like the check me out thing too.

I wonder if any DS can download from your wii or if you need a password or something?
I don't see why not. It would give everyone who doesn't have a Wii access to the channel and may encourage people to buy a Wii for the channel. I can't wait to they start.
This is great! This is a great marketing tool and I can see a similar channel specifically for Wii demos etc coming sometime in the future.
Wii Demos only if they create a HDD.

wtf is the point there are not enough options to run a truely epic and worthwhile experience for a fashion/popularity contest.
Mii channel... just a better plaza and diffrent type of voting channel.

You know, originally I never thought that a Wii HDD "would happen"
I thought people were being too optimistic and such. But after seeing the amount of Wii Ware titles announced, it just might happen. I have already used up 400 of the 1600 blocks on my Wii. 254 of which belong to the Internet Channel
