As many of you may know, the DS Browser was released in Japan today. We?ve read preview after preview of the browser and its features, but how does it perform in real life?

From watching Joshua Zimmerman?s video, it looks like we don?t have too much to worry about. The interface looks very clean and well-designed. Handwriting recognition doesn?t look bad, but we could use a closer look at it. The two browsing modes work well with the DS? small screen, and the entire experience is a beautiful one on the DS lite.

However, there do appear to be some loading speed issues. Switching browsing modes and loading many pages can be agonizingly slow, even with the additional ram included with the browser. Certain websites, such as CNN, take almost three minutes to load. There also seems to be the occasional lag when scrolling a page.

Since pop-ups, Java, and Flash are disabled, it?s likely that instant messaging and Gmail chat are out. Every client-independent IM service tried so far seems to have failed due to either those problems or general incompatibility with Opera. Too bad, those features would be very welcome in lieu of an online Pictochat.

The Opera DS Browser is out in Japan now and will be released this October in Europe. Still no word on a US release date, but we?ll keep our eyes open.

it sounds good for the most part, but why the hell is EU getting b4 us.
i thought that the browser would be way better
the lag is a big surprise though
i thought that msn would obviosly work
mabey they should reduse the price a little bit
EU is getting it!?!!

AYYAYAYAAYYAAYAYYAYAYYAYAAYAYY!!!

-ahem-
i dont know if u should be that happy
slow internet service and no vids or music this is a spit in the face
I have it and it works great.

I have pics of it of me online on Gaia. n.n;
Is there any information on when the US release date is?
None at the moment. Europe is getting it around Oct. But i expect the US to get it before the holiday rush.

I think I will just wait until it comes out it the US. It will probably be $35. Toungue I need to save all the money I have right now anyways so I can buy a Wii and games for it.

I have heard before that it is free to download until June 2007. I think I am going to go with the Wii's internet instead of the DS' internet now.

Edit: Better yet, I will stick with my computer's internet. Toungue

Im unsure about the Wii version. its different from using the stylus to ype but the the Wii, youll point and click? Odd.

Or oyoull use the SUB ports to hook up a keyboard?

Me. I wont use it.
the Opera Browser on the DS is basically a gimmick. Anyone who wants to browse on the internet won't use their DS, they'll turn on a computer.
but i'm sure it isn't all bad. Hopefully the Opera Wii Browser will run smoother
believe me the web browser has it usefulness....
