So I was thinking about the controls for the DS Zelda game and how intuitive and fun it actually made the game. It was also a lot of fun how some of the DS's unique controls (blowing out torches, moving windmills via the mic, etc.) made the game actually feel 'new' despite the typical adventure/puzzle game that the Zelda series are responsible for.
...that being said...
I'd like to actually see this same/similar controls in Wii games. Think about.
New Zelda Wii - motion sensor moves fairy around screen, while tapping A makes Link move towards her. Drawing a circle around Link, intuitively draws his sword swirl action. Weapons Could be intuitively placed on the Wii's directional pad. + and - would be the Zelda TP style map/items/collection, etc. Basically, I am proposing getting rid of the nunchuk, who's control was wonky from time to time with the shaking for sword swirl and dodge/roll. Those controls would be replaced by holding B for shield, B+motion left/right for dodge and B+A to insert roll and a B+A remote flick to jump back, if needed. Obviously this game could be given a Wiiware addition, because it would be a top down like the DS and perhaps smaller adventure, set in the same universe and style as Windwaker/Phantom Hourglass? Who knows.
Also, my wife is busy playing My Sims, she is addicted. Well the same/similar controls could be given to a game like that where moving the on screen hand/arrow, etc, would move the character to that position on screen. Using items would be limited to one/maybe two at a time to either the A or B button. Items could be placed on a left/right direction carousel, so scrolling through them would be simple...not like you have a ton of items to use in Animal Crossings or My Sims. Using A would activate that item on whatever spot you are on. ie. Shovel+A would dig a hole/cover up existing hole. B could be used for grabbing items. I really do like the physical shaking of trees in My Sims, makes you feel like you are 'doing' something.
Anyways, just ideas. What do you think?
