....looking to buy some online. Not from any of you or anything (unless youre selling), but I am going into college to get a masters degree in graphics, and I was looking to get Photoshop CS3 Extended. Is there any advice? Should I get Extended? Should I get CS3? CS2? I DO need some 3D graphics software eventually (Which Extended has), although this software is not required as of yet. Should I wait? Should I just use the colleges software? I need to decide before febuary to create a portfolio.
What kind of graphics do you want to be doing?

if you've got a limitless supply of money get

Photoshop CS3 Extended
Illustrator CS3

as the bare minimums

if you want to do web design

Dreamweaver CS3
Flash CS3
Fireworks CS3

if you want to do your own 3D work

Cinema 4D/3DS Max

Video or Animation

Flash CS3
Premier Pro CS3

Page Design / Magazine

InDesign CS3

You might like aftereffects CS3 too
D4rk beat me to it but yes, CS3 Extended and Illustrator CS3, if you can afford as they do come at a price.

But follow d4rk's advice on his recommendations.

If you wanted something temporary you could always use GIMP, it can be used extremely well however it is not a professional kind of software.
Since you're a student, get it from an online student supply store, wheareas most retail (including direct from Adobe) charge you upwards of $600. Most places knock it down to about $300 w/ a student discount. It's best to go ahead and get the Suite. You'll prolly use most of them anywho. I've been using CS1 for years. The school currently uses CS2, but they're about to switch over to CS3 I think. Confusing! Toungue
Oh yeah, one thing,

Don't even bother with any of the software I recommended unless you've got a Core 2 Duo processor and a gig of ram.

If you haven't go for CS version of the adobe software, MX 2004 versions of the Former-Macromedia Software and don't bother with 3DS/C4D
Shouldn't the Uni give it to you for free?
I hate adobe....

but yeah....CS3 is crazy-good. My job's now upgrading from *cough*corel*cough* to Illustrator!

What type of "graphics" is it? Graphic design for t-shirts is effin easy lol.
