I know there are some pokemon that will evolve if you give them an item. last night i gave scyther metal coat to evolve him into scizor. but he wont evolve, what am i doing wrong?
that doesnt help. i want to know why scyther isnt evolvong when i give him metal coat
you have to trade scyther to get him to evolve. a few pokemon evolve using items and lvling them up. while others evolve while holding the item while in trade e.g. slowpoke evolves into slowking if he is holding kingsrock when traded to someone else or scyther.

this lists the types "new evolutions" look for the porygon-2 evolving into porygonz there you will see how to evolve porygon-2. this is the same way to evolve scyther but with a metal coat instead of a dubious disk
