Full Version: Tony Hawk Considering the Wii Balance Board

The following is an extract from an interview from skating legend Tony Hawk, infamous for the "Tony Hawk" skateboard games.

-----------------------------

Eurogamer: What other videogames do you play?

Tony Hawk: I play a lot of games with my kids, so whatever they’re into at the time. My middle son is heavily into Guitar Hero, he loves it and so he gets me playing it. He actually beats me on a lot of songs, which is frustrating. They like playing a lot of Wii games, they like Transformers, and my game - they love it.

Eurogamer: Have you seen much of Wii Fit? Do you think a Tony Hawk game would work well with the Wii Fit board?

Tony Hawk:
I’ve seen a little bit of it. I think it’s possible to incorporate the Wii Fit board into one of our games, but it would change the control scheme dramatically and we’d have to figure out how to make that work. So I don’t know yet.

-----------------------------

I know for a fact that when many people first saw Nintendo's new toy, the Wii Balance Board, they thought "skateboard". How? Because I did.

The Balance Board would make perfect sense to add to any skateboard or snowboard simulator. Heck, if they ever made a game called "Tony Hawk's Plank o' Wood" featuring the device it could sell millions of copies. Added to that fact that many people like the Wii Balance Board, but just don't see themselves playing Wii Fit. Therefore, a package deal involving both a game and Balance Board that is not Wii Fit could just work in Nintendo's favor.

Sorry, but I missed the part where Tony Hawk said that he likes the Wii Balance Board...
GlueGun, was that really necessary?
Sounds interesting, looking forward to hearing more on this, and then maybe i'll consider getting a balance board d:

Yes. I'm not trying to be cruel, and I don't disagree that its a nice idea, but he doesn't actually say anything to the effect of he "likes the Wii Blance Board." I don't like to see things taken out of context. He said it might be possible to utilize it in one of their games, but they're unsure for now.

Oh I agree, I titled it wrong, and in fact, thank you for noticing, but unfortunately we cannot edit portal'd posts
Screw the rules I have mod powers.

And a pat on the back to you if you get the reference.
OMFG scary modification powers. Actually I can do it too, but whatever?
I get the reference Kindrik. Screw the money, I have rules... wait... can I try that again.

Also, woo-hoo... Tony Hawk... because the world isn't sick of his games yet.
Haha yeah just what i thought, look another Tony Hawk game, but in all honestly how do you think it would play with being able to use the balance board. You still have to have some way to do grabs and other tricks.
If they somehow got the balance board working well then maybe I'd be interested in Tony Hawk games again. And I guess for grabs you could just shift your body weight and do some kind of motion with the remote or nunchuk. Same for flips and spins.
But I really don't see a traditional Tony Hawk game really fitting with the balance board. Maybe something like Downhill Jam 2.
Yeah it would be a bit of a challenge in my eyes, but if they do decide to try it it will be interesting to see how it works out.
It would be interesting indeed. But I wouldn't want a cheap half-assed game one year when I could be playing the "real version" with Wii controls
