Animal Crossing, MMO?

Edge magazine is reporting that Nintendo's Wii iteration of its hugely popular Animal Crossing franchise is taking a massively multiplayer online direction.
While we're still waiting for Nintendo to officially confirm anything about a Wii version of Animal Crossing (apart from the fact that it's coming), Edge's latest issue opens with the news lead: "Animal Crossing goes MMO".
The latest issue of the mag reports, "A Japanese source has confirmed to Edge that the upcoming Wii iteration of Animal Crossing is set to be a social networking MMO."
No further details are reported so we're left hanging about exactly when we'll be able to buy cheap turnips off the black market in Russia

I'd have picked a better franchise though...
It kinda was an online game before but not really. I have to say that I never played any of the animal crossing games for more than a week if that. I've played tons of MMOs though I tend to try to stay away from the life-sucking games they are now. Still, I'd give this a try at least if it is true but we'll have to wait and see about that.
Instead of grinding for epic gear, I'll grind for a sofa!

Well, I hope we do have the ability to have 'town names' or 'town friend code system', that is if we are aloud custom towns.
That would be cool, custom towns and to travel to another you just need the name or friend code.
The Town could have Comp players and real players...
MMO AC would be a nice way to keep Wii's online service moving after Brawl. It would be a smart move for them to do it. There are already AC ties in Brawl anyway, so more exposure for the franchise.
That would be so awesome to have Animal Crossing as an MMO. It's exactly what the game needed and with the Wii there is nothing stopping Nintendo from doing this.

Hahah sounds cool. ^^ I didn't think they'd take AC this far. Though I was expecting something AC for the wii.
Now I'm wondering if we'll be able to choose our character's features. Or if it'll be randomly selected for us like in the other games. I hope it's the former... >< I also wonder if everyone gets their own town. That would make sense, then you could visit like a "common place" where everyone can go, and then cross over to other towns. XP Anyway, a MMO sounds awesome!
There are endless possibilities for the game and it would make since for them to do it. AC:WW for the DS was a nice step in franchise for online and many the Wi iversion can be the next big step.

I would assume that Nintendo is working on an Animal Crossing for Wii, seeing how Wide World for the DS was such a hit with online added. What type of game and when it'll be released is still a mystery.
I hope it's good. I am suppose to get animal crossing for ds on christmas day. That would be great if they had a huge online one for the wii also.
