Good news for those looking to pick up a 40gb PS3 with Spiderman 3 included. All the reviews I've seen thus far are very very good. Now I realize that a movie won't sell a system, but it's a great bonus.
not silver

Spiderman 3 as a film is not good enough reason to buy a PS3 bundle. Mostly due to it being a let down.
Yeah at least they bundled something with it though. Though would be better if it was a game

aww i kinda wanted a different color on the 40GB model but oh well....
My main concern is the lack of backwards compatability. People at the local game store (Game Crazy, somehow affiliated w/Hollywood Video) have said that there's a patch available for one to play his/her PS2 games, but the patch is (reportedly) 20GB and will most likely NOT be free.
I don't know if any of that is true, but if it is, I'd be better off finding a 60GB or even an 80GB after the price drop.
I'm not sure if you can expect any download that will give you BC with the 40gb PS3. If anyone can fiind some source material make sure to post it.
Spider-Man 3 definitely isn't worth purchasing a PS3 over. If anything, I'm going to buy an 80GB PS3. Why didn't they bundle a game like Ratchet and Clank?

They probably didn't bundle ratchet and clank, because it's getting amazing reviews and it will sell on it's own.
And if bundled with a PS3 would convince more to buy it. But instead they bundled the weakest of the Spiderman movies with it because of teh bluray.
Looks like a nice little deal, but the real question here is price?

I think most people would think that bundling the system with Spiderman 2 would be kind of stupid since 3 is almost out. BTW you can get the trilogy on Blu Ray, so it's not just 3 that's on the format.
Some people aren't into free things and that's fine, but if someone was actually considering buying a 40gb PS3 I'm sure they wouldn't look at the Spiderman 3 add-on and say "No way I'm not picking up the system now, because it comes with something extra for free."
I'm sure there are better bluray movies they could have used, but whatever. Sony's call.
There are alot of better things that could have been bundled with this. But gft's right not many people are gonna complain about something for free. But I do know I am going to do quite a bit more research and wait a bit longer before I decide between 360 and ps3.

I wonder if that deal is still going where as anyone who buys a blu ray player or PS3 gets like 6 free blu ray movies that they can choose from off of a list. If that's the case then Spiderman 3 being the bundle is nice, but there's also many other's to choose from.
Yeah, i thought i heard that somewhere, if so that would be a really good deal.

I know it had been going on for quite some time, but I'll have to check and see if it's still in place.
Purchase a PLAYSTATION 3 and receive 5 free Blu-Ray movies. Purchase between October 1, 2007 and January 31, 2008, mail-in offer. While supplies lasts. Go to PS3 offer.
Hmmmm I like that, although i'm not gonna be buying a 360 or a ps3 by Jan 31 of '08, but i guess you never know.
That bundle wouldn't really be worth it for me since I don't have HD TV.
And the lack of backwards compatibility doesn't matter to me, because I already have two Ps2's to play my Ps2 games.
I agree with cloud, the BC doesn't mean anything to me cause I already have a PS2, but once HDTV are in more and more family rooms, people will start to enjoy having high definition game systems more
