Is anyone currently playing Maple Story? I'm trying to get some members together and play. It's totally free, and a lot of fun. You should check it out.
It looks like fun..but way too addicting. My cousin can't stop playing, and its interfering with his school work and etc. lol

it's just like an rpg where you can complete quest by yourself or go it alone. really you don't even have to complete quest. just work to level up and become more powerful in whichever class of character you choose to be.
I played it a long time ago and on several versions. It does suck your life away and in the end you have nothing to show for it other than a high level character. I do play games to relax but after you reach high levels, the level-grinding is terrible and that's all you do. I used to love that game but got bored/tired of it after a while. I try to stay away from most MMORPGs nowadays but I do love them.
I tried it for a while the other day. I was really interested but turned off at the same time. IMO it seems like they threw a bunch of junk together that resembles a game.. but just isn't. Plus a good portion of the people on there are 12 - 16 y.o. kids, which for me just isn't appealing. But worth a try.
I'm not sure how long ago you tried the game, but they keep making improvements. I'm either level 20 or 21 right now and I haven't encountered the same people you did. Most people are mature, and for those who aren't you just put them on your ban list. Plus for those who keep giving you trouble one way or the other, you can now right click their avatar and report them to the game maker.
btw they just added two new lands to explore...
my thought was to get people from wiiloaded to join and play the game. that way eventually we could have a "wiiloaded" guild and work together to get through quest and help level one another up. anyone's who's interested let me know.

I don't mean to put words into the other members mouth, but what I've found is that there are tons of scammers on the game, and some people who continually ask you for money or other things. I don't think this is due to younger people playing, just a lot of assholes of all ages. I just use the ban button, when I don't want to be bothered by these people.

ALRIGHT. Maple will not bring your grades down for the love of @!#$%^&. I have had straight A's all year last year, and I still have them this year. And I play about 3-4 hours when I can. GFT is right.
Yes, the Maple community can be stupid/rude, but its mostly the 12 year old and the "pros" who do it. GFT, once ya get to a higher level you'll meet smarter people

Still, many people play the game and it is very good. Don't let anyone else tell you different or that its going to hurt you in real life. Because apprarently, those people haven't even tired it and only have 2nd hand sources.

I didn't want to get too up there lvl wise because I knew of the horrible grinding I'd have to do. I made it up to lvl25 before my patience cut off. XP I like the game, but I don't want to dedicate literally days to lvling for nothing. Only game I play these days is Trickster. ^^

I totally get what your saying, but gamers have found ways to get around the XP tediousness of the game. For instance, you have the quest that Tory wants you to do. I went in with a group, completed it easily for 1600Xp and then went back and did it again. We ended up doing the same quest 4 times in one evening.
Once you reach a high level it does take a long time to level. The main reason I quit was that I was just too burned out from playing it. I played it for about 3 years and played on the Japanese one, English one, Thai one, MapleSEA, etc... My last character was a level 83 hermit and after playing for so long and taking an hour to get 5% I got too bored with it. It is much funner if you play in a big group with people but sometimes it's hard to find people who don't just leach exp. I think this game is still the best free MMO out there and I have not seen anything to take it's place. I have tried many MMORPGs since Maple and I didn't play them nearly as long as I did Maple. Good game but addicting.

I guess I have low tolerance for grinding in online games. In console rpgs, for some mysterious reason, I don't get bored. Hm. =\ Dunno.
The only game where lvl grinding is actually NOT boring for me is Trickster. DX Maple is the game that really introduced me to online gaming. lol So I guess I'll always remember it as being an all-round good game.
My sis still plays, I think she's lvl 56 or something. XP She's a ninja-thing. Assassin? I don't know exactly. I was an archer. (archers rawk)
I tried group quests, but they were never successful. = = Because people would rather flirt, spam or fight than complete the quest. Rawr....
