this thread's mainly for announcing the release of demos into the xbl marketplace and giving impressions on demos.

if you've played any of the demos, go ahead and post your review/thoughts/impressions of the game even if someone or myself have already made one for a particualr game. the more, the merrier. ^_^

the most recent addition was ninty nine nights aka N3. it's a pretty cool game, but for me, it's def. a rental at best. im not a fan of the hack n slash genre. the sheer number of enemies was truly impressive though. to give you an idea, my highest combo was about 700 and by the time the demo was over, which was about the length of one level, i had accumulated 3000+ kills. lol by the end of the demo, i was exhausted. the genre's just not for me. graphics are nice. the cgi scenes are def. sweet. the camera control sucks. i was finding myself always readjusting it to see where to hack my way to. music and sound effects were okay. enemy ai sucks, but that could be because it was the first level and like any other game the enemies progressively get harder...and smarter hopefully.
rockstar's table tennis: graphics and physics are really spot on. the physics more so than the graphics. as the match progresses, your guy and the opponent start to sweat. you could see it on their shirts; mainly on their upper chest, upper back, and armpits. controls are perfect. never struggled with moving my character around. the button configuration is also easy and you dont really need much of a tutorial on how to play it. it's very intuitive, but it does have a tutorial anyway. sound effects are sweet. if youve got a dolby digital sound system, you'll be able to hear the crowd all around you. and it's not just a bunch of white noise either. you can actually hear what theyre saying. as you and your opponent make a long string of volleys, this music starts up and slowly gets louder as the volleys increase. the crowd also starts getting into it with their oohs and ahhhs. makes for an intense match. playing the cpu sucks, so im guessing that this is more of an online game or with other people. although you can play with some strategy, the game still becomes very reptetive.
saints row demo is up. review to come whenever i d/l and play the mofo.
ok, i played it for about an hour and i gota say that im impressed.

not sure where to start. something that i quickly noticed was that the pedestrians usually talk about stuff pertaining to whatever theyre doing or thinking. if you happen to ride around on a tuner type car, people will call you a ricer. if youre driving around wrecklessly in a police car, they say something like, 'the police dept is doing down the drain...or someshit. while walking around, if you bump into someone, they tell you off. lots of profanity and i mean lots. i never played gta"sa, but from friends who've played it say that the game drops the f' bomb a lot. this game uses the whole slang vocabulary. lol. one other thing i found funny was that when youre driving around wrecklessly, the pedestrians are supposed to jump out of the way, but most of the time they'd run right under the f'in car. lolz

i did notice some framerate hiccups and it was where the scene wasnt even that populated with people/cars/whatver. sound effects are really good; guns sound nice, car sounds are okay, theres lots of ambient city sounds all around to help pull you in. controls are a little iffy. it's pretty much near impossible to kill someone while running around. you have to stop and shoot. i also liked that you can shoot in all axis while driving in a vehicle. if you have allies with you in your car, they shoot out of the car as well. if youre walking around and beat up some random guy, they all gang bang the guy too.

theres lots of customization options from what you wear(hat, undershirt, belt, socks, boxers, shoes, jackets, pants, shorts) to customizing your car(i skipped that part of the demo). you can even do some plastic surgery on yourself to mask/cover your notoriety it seems. customization for your characters feature are as plentiful as tes4:oblivion or fight night round 3. it's fairly deep.

the story seems to be borrowed from oblivion where you have guild quests and a main quest, but i dont think saints row will have a main quest. it will rely heavily on the guild/gang quests. there are 4 main gangs with each one having thier own story it seems and i guess you'd have to play as each one to unravel the complete story.

graphics are okay. theyre definitely not meant to be photorealistic, but the lighting and textures are really good. character models...hmmm, the best way i can compare them is that theyre a few of notches below oblivion with FN:R3 being up at the top.

overall, i really did find it fun and im actually thinking of borrowing my bro's ps2 to try out and compare it to gta:sa. the demo didnt have online multiplayer, but thats understandable since the demo was already close to 1GB.

Man only 700? My highest combo was 1436 with around the same amount of kills. I'd say it's the best out of all those Dynasty Warriors-style games because it allows for so much RPG--esque features such as equippable items and special powers. Definately a rental, possibly a buy to play randomly.

2nd time i went through it, i got around 1300+ and that was only cuz i used one of those special orb moves.
my feelings toward the game havent changed. mizuguchi really should stick to music/puzzle games.

dead rising demo is up!

oooh gotta play it

tell me how dead rising is... that game looks sweet.
i'll try and post up my impressions later on today, but to sum it up: it's hella sweet.
Dead Rising is fun. There are hundreds and hundreds of zombies, maybe thousands. You can go into every store on several different floors and each store has a new weapon(pretty much). I love the knife.
Nice... I think thats the fun of it slaughtering off thousands of zombies. Ive always been a sucker for zombie games. I was dissapointed knowing it was only going to be on the xbox360 though.... was hoping they would atleast release a PC version.

Yeah the idea of a zombified civilzation that you just continue to own with chainsaws, hockey sticks, and guitars is just badass. You should definately play it if you get a chance to.

well, the demo is really short. it sort of starts you off from one of the cutscenes and exiting the small playable area of the mall will begin another cutscene that will evidently end your demo.

i'll probably be jumping around from graphics/sounds/gameplay through my preview, so bear with me; i didnt have much time to write this. theres like 4 ways to end the demo uber quick. the 5th is basically letting time expire. overall, the story is pretty good. very capcom-ish like their other zombie themed games. graphics are good and clean. some textures look like complete ass, but you rarely notice it. this game is pretty much every zombie fans "if" scenario realized. "if i were stuck in a mall full of zombies, i'd [fill in the blank]". the game has an rpg-eque feel to it. the way you get esperience point is by taking photos. the more impressive the shot, the more points you get. you can also take humorous, candid, erotic, and horror type of photos. you also get points by killing zombies in creative ways. an example: grab the sickle, reel an enemy from behind their necks, put one foot to their chest, and pull on the sickel and see their head fly off. almost anything in the mall can be used as a weapon. you can pick up magazines which are used as an ablility enhancer. some let you use certain weapons for a longer period of time, others increase certain stats, etc. sound/music is sweet. this game utilized 5.1 dolby digital really well. you can faintly hear the typical mall/elevator music playing throughout the whole mall.

i'll stop there. theres just too much to write about it even though the premise of the game is very simple. theres a lot to with a limited time to do it. i dont think theres a way to complete every side story through one run. from what i heard, when you beat the game and start a new one, your stats are carried over to your new game. that soooo capcom. lol
some have compared the gameplay to dynasty warriors, but theyre way off. main difference is that in the DW series, youre forced to kill every enemy on the screen. it's not necessary for this game, plus it has a lot more elements/features that make it very unique. it's resident evil meets GTA meets dynasty warriors 99 nights meets (photography rpg? lolz) anyway, this game is definitely a must buy. i can totally see this game becoming a cult classic.
chek out this walkthrough for the dead rising demo i found on joystiq.com

Unfortunately I dont have a 360... I just read the previews in my game mag though. I been idling over the idea of getting one just a little bit on the expensive side for me and I could use the money for my vacation with GF. 360 has 2 games I want... zegapain xor(been watching the anime and is by far one of the best... starts off generic but after the first 3 episodes it gets deeper and surprising.) and dead rising.

hmm, i'll need to research this "zegapain xor".
2 new demos are up!

a new test drive demo which supposedly fixed gameplay issues with the frist demo(thats a first). and 'just cause' which is a gta-type clone meets desperado.
really short demo reviews ...

just cause: graphics are nice. sounds effects and ambience is decent. gameplay needs work. controls feel weird. i was looking forward to this game, but now im not. not even a rental.

TDU demo#2: controls still feel arcadey. never played any of the other test drive games so im assuming thats how they've always been. graphics are beautiful. car models are incredible. they reflect their environments including cars. just jaw dropping. sound effects are okay. engine sounds feel off. this the first MMO-racer, so thats interesting. still, the handling didnt feel right and i couldnt get used to them even after a few play-throughs.

I don't know what you're talking about with TDU. The controls are easy compared to something like Gran Turismo. MMO-racing makes TDU so much more fun than any other car game.
