Full Version: Reggie Fils-Aime thinks LittleBigPlanet is on the wrong console

Reggie Fils-Aime, one of the heads of the hydra at Nintendo (figuratively speaking ... or are we?), was recently asked which titles he was jealous weren't on the Wii. Without hesitation, Fils-Aime barked out: "I've been very intrigued with Little Big Planet (from Sony). I don't know that it belongs on their platform." He then said Nintendo would like the first person shooters from Microsoft like Halo and Bioshock. But he never said those didn't belong on the 360.

Now, color us crazy, but is Fils-Aime implying that LittleBigPlanet would serve audiences better on the Wii? He does realize the graphics would get a pretty noticeable downgrade and that there needs to be a very open, accessible, and powerful online platform behind the game, right? No? Oh well. Sure, it may seem like it fits in with the casual crowd more, but the casual crowd also wouldn't build a level and upload it for their friends to play. What do you guys think? Is the PS3 the right platform for LittleBigPlanet or not?

I thought this was kind of funny when I read it. Right now Nintendo is flooding the market with very bad Wii games, and making gamers wait months at a time for anything quality from the 1st party camp. Thus far it seems that any high quality non first party games have been remakes or simply ports. Nintendo can have games that are as creative as littlebigplanet, but they have to stop being cash whores and start releasing some quality stuff and maybe even jump the 3rd party vendors and tell them to stop making minigame blunders.
I agree with him that the concept is more like a game Nintendo would have than Sony, but the game just wouldn't be the same without the realistic graphics which obviously the Wii can't produce. not to mention the online part as already stated in the article...
It may sound really stupid, but I think LittleBigPlanet could be one of those games that creates it's only genre and even if it's not a commercial success, if it's done well people will be looking back at the game for years to come and giving it praise.
On the FPS comment, all I have to say (to good ol' Reg) is get one of your teams to start working on an exclusive FPS with a minimum of a T rating that has online multiplayer. Set Retro to work on an actual FPS, complete with multiplayer and online. Customizable maps, download content, etc. Create a new world, and nintendo guide them as much as you did with Metroid.

It's good to hear Reggie give props to other games, better than just pretending like everything else is utter trash (the FORMER Sony approach). Nintendo made their decision on hardware, now they must live with it. Personally I'm still not sold on HD graphics at an added cost, but having the processing power to theoretically battle 100's at a time would be nice.
i think little big planet could only work on the PS3....i mean your a little character in this huge world, everything must have so damn detail and the Wii just cant pull that off...the online feature is another HUGE factor in the game and unfortunately the online on the Wii is pretty damn lame so far....so lets just leave this game to Sony..please....
