So it's my birthday in...... 24 days, and I'm getting a new iPod. (Gonna spread my wings, Sweet 16!)

Now here's the thing. I now have a choice between three gadgets, an iPod Touch 8GB for €300 ($441), an iPod Touch 16GB for €400 ($588), or an iPhone [unsure of size, don't particularly care] which my cousin has imported and unlocked for €600 ($882).

Before anyone says it, no I am locked into these three choices.

iPod Touch 8GB
Pros - Cheapest by a lot, 8GB is pretty fine for me

Cons - The smallest drive

iPod Touch 16GB
Pros - It's bigger than the 8GB

Cons - Urgh, so close yet so far to iPhone. Expensive considering it's just a bigger drive

iPhone ?GB
Pros - It's a freakin' iPhone! Use your imagination Toungue Bluetooth, camera etc.

Cons - Dear god, that price is higher than Simon Cowell's waistline. Also, since it's unlocked, I won't be able to update, but seriously, will there be any significant updates in the future? Besides maybe video-capture functionality (the hardware is there)

Or, I could order from the USA and not get raped by ridiculously inflated Euro prices (the Euro is trading at €1.00 to $1.47, so this is a good time). Now here's my question, how would I go about that, and would I get killed by p&p prices?

Someone's going to have to help me out here, I'm not good with ordering things.

Thanks guys,

'Cosmic
iPod Classic 160GB.

be a REAL man.
See this is why I said I'm locked into those three. I have no need for storage like you apparently do. I want media, and to touch things Smile
I wouldnt get in to the iPhone just yet, especially if yours wont get updates. What about when they inevitably fix the real annoying crap like the fact that you have no audio on web pages?!?
Or you could stop following the craze that is Ipods and show you're not some tool for a fruit company xD

But seriously? Wait 'till the american dollar drops some more xD
Then import it.
Get a creative.....
I'm not getting a freakin' Creative Smile
Don't get an iPod; get a Zune, Creative, Sansa, ANYTHING, I don't understand why anyone would get a new iPod, they all suck. iPods don't have the best track record. Their only reason for popularity is because of the whole social movement they created. :/

But it's good BECAUSE it's popular. Otherwise there wouldn't be half the accessories available. Seriously. It's really convenient to visit a friends house and just shove my iPod onto the dock connector attached to their hi-fi/computer/stereo/whatever

Plus I've yet to find a product that can match the top iPod in storage :3

I'm not a guy who follows fashin trends trust me, in fact if guys in my school buy the proverbial Product X, then I usually end up buying Product Y, but I liked the OS of iPod and now that I'm "with" iPod I'm not going to change. Plus, the iPod Touch kicks any Creative or Zune's ass.

Plus, Zune + P2P Music - nah ah

I don't have many downloaded songs, purely because I don't believe in it (and also because the quality is usually crap), but let's say i want to get something that is impossible to buy on CD? Anyway, no to Zune.

Anyway, thanks for posting guys

It's quite easy to put P2P music on a Zune, that rumor has long been dispelled. Anyway, the tech behind the iPod is pure crap, but the touch is shaping up to be ok, with the OS X core, and API coming in February, we'll be seeing some cool 3rd party apps that may make it a killer device. If I can pick one up eventually, I'd love to write some apps for the iTouch.

iPod touch is a rip. You pay a lot extra for less storage, what were Apple thinking :/
I know it's flash storage etc but it doesn't have to cost tha much more, I can find a 8gb flash drive on play.com for around 25 pounds..
If you don't have a phone already or it's an older/outdated/crappy phone then get the iPhone. You said you don't need much space. They have only the 8gb model now and you CAN update it. I have version 1.1.1 that I updated and I have so many applications that I can do just about anything. I'm in love with mine and now my iPod Video is getting dusty. I'll cuddle with it tonight since I've neglected it for so long.

But, can that...

Have Safari with a WebCore layout engine? Run on an OS X kernel, with an API arriving in February, to have OS X apps on it? Will that have wi-fi. I'm not a big fan of the iPod touch, but it's got a lot of tech capabilities behind it that warrant the price. The hardware isn't exactly cheap either, with the touch screen and whatnot. Remember, software engineering and R&D isn't exactly free to do either.

get a zune and download limewire works great for me lol
