This stunned me.

High School will be closed tomorrow, Tuesday, November 13 as a precautionary measure due to an unconfirmed threat. Be assured that the Police Department is investigating the situation thoroughly. All other schools in the district will be open for a regular school day.

Hopefully nothing bad happens when I get back... TLC, come here and help Toungue

I remember one time our high school was locked down because of a death threat written on a wall in the bathroom. Another time, some dumb hick accidentally left his hunting rifle in the back of his truck when he showed up to school. Fun stuff!
More time too play Galaxy.
O.O That's right! Wow, what a time to have off...
what state are you from/general area without being too exact- what happend?

someone make a bombscare?
Central New Jersey... It's "unconfirmed" (That's what everyone tells me, so it's all I know), but I'm assuming it's probably a bombscare, as you mentioned.

Someone threatened to shoot up the school on one of two days. Coincidentally those two days just happened to be the days of midterm exams. So kids who had exams had an excuse to cut classes and skip their exams, albeit temporarily. Needless to say, nothing came of it. But before then there was another threat at the U of W about someone coming to do a shooting and nothing happened. Since then a bunch of these fake threats have been popping up all over town just as a way for the kids to pull their immature pranks and hope they can get out of school for one day.

yup and all withing a 2 week period. lol not to mention some one got stabbed at kindriks school

oh and an armed intruder at Garden City (another highschool in our city)

meh, that stabbing was blown out of proportion. Both guys had already been suspended from the school and the guy who did the stabbing just decided to go after one specific guy and he wasn't some mad man. He could have decided to stab him anywhere and it just happened to be on school grounds (barely because it was outside and right by the road).
That and the Garden City armed assailent was armed with.. a fire extinguisher. Maybe we aught to get these "weapons" out of our schools too... Don't want to put the students in more danger. Rolleyes

Ya, they wheren't really excused either, you just skipped (literally) school if you wanted to, it was just a way to make your parents agree.
I used to go to develen high school in lake wood Colorado (don't worry, don't go there anymore) which was 15 mins from the columbine shootings...

on that day we went under lockdown until about 4:30 and we had to stay under our desks and quiet until then....

then we did have school for the next 3 days...
scariest moment of my life...
Strange that I don't let that fear control me. When there was that stabbing we were under lockdown and were supposed to keep quiet and hide but Rawr, a few other friends, and I just played cards in full view of the door's window and had music blasting. We had a substitute who must've seen things just like we did and even tried joining on the card game. We knew there was nothing to be afraid of. And if a shooting happened at say, Andrew Mynarsky (another high school, closer than what you described as being the distance to Columbine) I would've been just the slightest bit more afraid since it's a gun and not a knife but that would've barely been anything since I wouldn't be afraid of them risking to come all the way to our school when they'd just get stopped by police. So I would've probably just been doing much of the same. If the shooting was happening in our school then that's a different story completely.

Our society is controlled far too much by fear. Every day we're bombarded with how we're no longer safe in our own backyards and that the boogeyman is gonna come grab us or some nut job is gonna shoot people in a school. I'm more likely to get killed driving in my car than I am by someone shooting me. I take everything the media throws out with a you with a grain of salt. You need to be realistic at times. Also, the worst example of fear mongering I could think of just off the top of my head would be the example in Bowling for Colombine where a guy conceals over 10 different weapons on him AND a freaking shotgun in his pant leg. I'd like to see someone walk with a shotgun down their pants, and two pistols up their ass.

If it was a gun and not a knife, I won't deny I'd be pissed scared during that lockdown. But a knife? Pfft.
I'd like to see a guy try to take on a school with a single knife.
A school of 1800+ staff and students. Toungue
