Since Smash Brothers Melee i've been wantin to get into the world of Pokemon, but because there's so many now, I don't know where to start. Can anyone point me in the right direction? I have a DS but i'm willing to buy a GBA if u think that's a better way to go. Any help will be appreciated!
AUSSIES RULE
zingers
Aussies are FTW. Anyway, any of the colored "versions" would be a good starting point, rather than some of the other types (Mystery dungeon, battle revolution, etc.). Any of them would be alright, you could even go to the original game boy ones. They all explain the concept well.
Get either Red or Blue--they were the original, they were the best

your right they were the best. anyways that'd be a waste of money cause you wouldnt be able to transfer the ones you trained. get diamond or pearl, and at least one of the GBA version.
To start off to refresh yourself on the originals you should buy FireRed or LeafGreen for the GBA. You can play those on your DS. Those games will get you familiar with original 150 and introduce you do some of the new ones. Emerald is another GBA game thats has past ties along with the 3rd generation that will help you know more pokemon. Then when you're ready you can move to Diamond or Pearl for the DS with the newer pokemon. And the DS pokemon games have a good mix a pokemon from all 4 generations in it.
get diamond or pearl, that was my first venture into the pokemon world. after playing diamond/pearl the other versions suck.
Gold/Silver/Crystal are still the best. Diamond and Pearl are very good though.
tbh i think you should start off with yellow or blue because they are easier to do, but if you want slightly better graphics i would go for ruby or sapphire.
Go for Leaf Green or Fire Red. Its updated graphics but the decent origanal pokemon.
I've gotten every generation of pokemon except Silver/Gold/cristal, and so I would get: Leafgreen/firered, then emerald, then diamond/pearl. I liked emerald the best though.
well in order to catch em all, you gotta buy em all
Just buy Diamond or Pearl, no point in buying a GBA at this stage. Diamond and Pearl are fresh stories, so you don't need to learn anything.
I bought dimond/pearl just recently as my first pokemon game and i love it!!! Great start. I recommend diamond/pearl highly.
In other words, it's all up to you. Pretty much all of the handhelds are great, and as ZeldaFan said, even though Diamond and Pearl are the latest additions, they can still make you into a Pokemon Fan even if you haven't played any. Here's the basic low down:
Red/Blue: Back to basics. First Pokemon games ever.
Yellow: You get a Pikachu as your first pokemon that follows you around.
Gold/Silver: A bit harder to understand IMO, but good nonetheless.
Crystal: A blend of Gold and Silver.
Ruby/Sapphire: Great fun, these got me back into Pokemon.
Emerald: Basically Ruby and Sapphire smacked together, with a bit more.
Fire red/Leaf Green: Red and blue, with updated graphics and more pokemon.
Diamond/Pearl: The latest additions will turn you into a Pokemon fan just like it did to ZeldaFan. Plus, you'll be in style with everyone who's followed Pokemon throughout the years.
Diamond and Pearl!!!! Then, get your DS on WiFi! Then, I can give yah sum good-ish pokemon! then, we can BATTLE! lol.
