@gft
I think that excite truck has it's own codec, so playback through that should still work, just not the photo channel.
MP3 is MPEG Layer-3 Audio
AAC is MPEG4 Audio
AAC is superior, but keep in mind, your iTunes tracks won't work with this, as they use a proprietary DRM, known as Fairplay, and Apple refuses to open Fairplay compatibility to anybody else.
I'm sure a Music Channel will launch at some stage. And NO, this is not fanboy dreaming. Anyone who knows me will know that I take a pessimistic approach to Nintendo in general. But perhaps now with the launch of AAC support they have an excuse.
What I was really thinking though, is that they could mimic Wii Fit. As in, launch a channel to go along with it i.e. when Wii Music launches later in 2008. Not just play music files, but you could do other related things in it; stat-tracking etc.
But will it support MP3s? there in lies the problem...
and, um, Wii Fit is getting its own channel?
not a half bad or entirely unrealistic idea cosmic, could work, maybe N will do something like it...
also i havent heard anything about wii music. do we have any stats on it?

Who knows, maybe? And yes, it's getting a stat-tracking channel.

Thanks, like I said, normally if somebody said "Surely Nintendo will give us a music channel" I would have shot it down in an instant, but the Wii Music channel idea came to me then, as an excuse to buy it even? I just want to be able to play my freakin' music during games, that's all I care about as of now.
And stats? http://www.wiiloaded.com/wiinews-10521
I use my photo channel a little but i may use it more after these improvements.
The MP3 thing is NOT a big deal...As long as your MP3's bitrate is high enough converting them won't be a problem...just convert what you want and drop them on the SD...so you have to take an extra 5 minutes out of the day...Too bad, life ain't always easy and it's not a life or death situation...Now it's nothing but an issue of convenience and instant gratification...Nintendo is unintentionally making us do a little extra work OH NOES!!1!@! They already gave customers new free straps, remote casings, and a feather stylus...what more do people want? Miyamoto to come to their houses and convert their mp3 libraries for them?
as they use a proprietary DRM, known as Fairplay, and Apple refuses to open Fairplay compatibility to anybody else.
Just sacrifice a CDR and burn the tracks that were downloaded through iTunes and rip them back into the program...problem solved.
hmmm, so....the only real changes is that it'll support acc instead of mp3 and a custom picture for the the photo channel icon....you still cant play music on wii menu and internet channel and stuff? 2GIG SD and PRO DUO MEMORY CARDS ARE ONLY $20 ON BLACK FRIDAY. FREAKIN SWEET!!!!
I am so happy that we will be able to use AAC files. I tried to put music from iTunes on my Wii and it didn't work. Can't wait!!!
It would be even better if this allowed us to connect our iPods to the Wii using the USB on the back and play the songs from it and for games that allow custom music.

That would be awesome!!!!! I bet sooner or later video games will let that happen. Maybe they will add it to the Wii.
Sucks how they are getting rid of MP3's, but I don't use that feature much anyways.
It's a bloody channel, I mean ger'over it
