oh ya i change the cover letter toned down the gaming aspect toned up the sales aspect and i applied wish me luck! thanks for all your comments
canada sure does things a lot differently. we just go in, ask for an application, fill it out, and pray they call back.
and yeah, like others said. get rid of all your gaming stats and instead mention your enthusiasm for gaming in a way that would benefit the store and customers.
I was kind of surprised after I got a response to an email telling me to send in a resume. My mom asked the store itself when she was passing by one day and they told her resume too; no applications.
yes, alot of retail stores want better sales associates so they want resumes instead of applications. many still offer online applications or in store apps with the old fashioned pen and paper but it always looks better when you hand them a resume. it proves youre better prepared and have experience. even if it doesnt really say much on it, it still shows initiative which companies like regardless if you keep this job long term (rise above the ranks to one day DM) or just for the season to make comission
either way, always show a resume

haha i always hand in a resume even if there is an application
As a video game enthusiast, I am very knowledgeable in the field of
video games. Some of my electronic accomplishments include, reaching
the top 100 in Halo 2, and more recently claiming the title of
WinnipegHeights.com Halo 3 champion. Aside from Halo and the FPS genre
i love and play almost all video games i am faced with, my favorites
being any Mario titles, Zelda titles, Smash Bros Titles, Fable, Final
Fantasy Titles, Kingdom Hearts title (the list can go on for quite a
while). My responsibilities as a competitive Halo gamer includes
playing for the win, and playing every day to become the best i can
be. Aside from being a competitive Halo gamer i am also a recreational
gamer, i enjoy games which have great game play and story line over
graphics (though a combination is preferred).
I thought you said you changed it? This whole quote will turn them away if anything, by the time they finish reading that, they won't even consider you. They want retailers, not game players.
Knowledge about video games is optional, they just want you to push the games their suppliers are paying them to push (usually the most crap ones), and try to buy as many used games as possible from the idiots who think they're saving money. That and be able to withstand the large amount of unbearable customers ranging from annoying pre-teen boys to completely lost adults.
he did.
good luck to you on that, if you get the job, dont let it get to you... the holiday rush is coming. so be mentally prepared to deal with asshats.
haha i doubt ill get the job, every one who works there seems to be over 25, im 17 (18 in a couple days) so ya.. it was a lost cause before i even applied
I think I may give up on hoping for EB and just apply at Future Shop or Best Buy. I'll still leave a resume but I doubt I'll even be considered because of my age.
I will eventually try get a job there when I'm appropriate age.
But for now..I don't want to work at a restaurant..ever. So I need to find a job that hires at 14, or wait til' I'm 15 and work at No Frills/Groceries.
Just so you know, EB and Gamestop used to be separate companies. One is not the Canadian equivalent of the other, they were both US companies.
That's cool and very professional of you, but in all honesty for a position like being a clerk at EB Games, it's kind of unnecessary... Now if it were for an executive position working at corporate hell yeah then cover letter away... Anyways, kudos dude I'm sure it makes you stand out from the crowd!
