well its obvious that the thing is dusty as hell and everything, but can someone tell me how its a 'hazard to their technicians?' unless every single one of them is allergic to dust, then im not understanding that part

The hazard to their technician's thing puzzles me. Just put on one of those dust masks or something? There, problem solved. Regardless of where this guy chose to keep his PS3 Sony had no right to refuse to repair it if you ask me.

I think this guy had an obligation to at the very least clean his system off before sending it in to get repaired for free. Does anyone think that Nintendo or Microsoft would have excepted one of their systems in the same condition?

I don't think Nintendo would have repaired it for free either...if those pictures don't show negligence then I'm not sure what it is. Would someone scan their Xbox360 warranty info also to give us their insight?

No, I think they'd have repaired it, no questions asked. Sony has fine support, but Microsoft and Nintendo are both known for outstanding customer support.

The fact that someone would send back something looking like this would immediately raise a red flag for any company. Dude obviously doesn't take care of it so its no wonder its not working probably. The "hazardous" part was just an excuse to tell this guy to get real.

When your talking about Microsoft outstanding support and their willingness to repair a system like this, are you talking about pre $1.5 billion to repair system or now, because I don't think Microsoft would touch it...and quite frankly not Nintendo either.

I would still sue.. where a gas mask if your so damn scared.

Yup that makes a lot more sense then some dumb kid taking 3 minutes to wipe his system down before shipping it off.

I also hope you never have severe allergies and have to deal with something like this. A tech shouldn't have to wear anything special to repair a system because someone's so lazy.

We should have everyone post pics of their systems and see who's looks like the PS3 above.

THATS A FORENSICS PARADISE RIGHT THERE!

talk about mad fingerprints all over and that looks disgusting!
I wanna know how he gets somethin like that so dusty.. I mean, assuming he got it within this past year, he must live in a dust-riden house. I don't get it.

That's one of the more ridiculous statements I've read in a while...

How do we know it didn't die because of the dust?
I'd clean it first to be fair
we dont Sad

well there are obviously just too many things that we just don't know to actually be able to judge it I guess, like where he kept it for example like GFT was saying.

but if it DID happen to die from the dust (which it probably did), I still think Sony should fix it for free, because that dust is just on the outside of the console, and to clean out the inside you would need to open up the console which would void the warrenty. then again, it just shoudl not be that dirty... its like he kept it in his garage or something. maybe he did, its not uncommon to see some college guy out in his garage watching/gaming on his TV or whatever. if he does sue though, it sure is going to be interesting to see how it will turn out. im almost about 50/50 on it

uhhhhhhhhhh? make a thread on the same topic?

Yes I would send it too them, because its there job, not to complain about how it looks.

See that's just it, with the way the kid sent in the PS3 it looks like neglect. Now if this was an issue like the old 360's and hardware failures then I'd expect Sony to address it immediately, but who else knows of anyone who's had this problem?

People will say Nintendo would have replaced a system looking like this, but let's also remember that Nintendo is making money off each system. No one on here has claimed that Microsoft would have been so kind, so I don't think it's crazy to expect gamers to take a little personal responsibility for their systems.

btw my Xbox stopped working right about a month ago, so I cleaned it off and blew on all of the inputs and outputs and everything works just fine now. Who's to say if this kid would have cleaned off his system and took some compressed air then he could have saved himself some issues.

Threads merged.
gft sure is defending sony pretty hard. lol.

but to answer the original question: no, i wouldnt send it in like that. i'd at least clean the exterior. how would i clean the inside of it without voiding the warranty from opening it? using a compressed can of air would just move the dust around in there. probably make things worse. who knows?
i agreewith greaser but i would like to add, "hazardous to our technicians" LMFAO!
