The PSP's redesign has revived Sony's flagship portable, much like Nintendo's redesigned DS Lite did. According to SCEA: "The PSP sold 286K units at retail for the month of October. Overall sales of the PSP are up 120% year over year due to the popularity of the slimmer and lighter PSP, which includes video-out capabilities for $169."
Of course, the hardware isn't the only reason why the system is doing so well. The "PSP has no games" argument has been banished to only the most oblivious of internet forum lurkers. As Sony notes, "With 24 first and third-party software titles being released this holiday season, such as SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Tactical Strike and Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of The Lions, as well as new spots for the wildly popular "Dude, get your own" campaign, the PSP will undoubtedly continue to gain momentum through the coming months."

Sales are up, but will the redesign be enough to get PSP sales on the same track as the DS? I doubt it.
I totally agree with what your saying. I don't think the PSP will ever be on par with the DS sales, Nintendo has always had that market locked down tight. Just look at the history of the handheld and even when other competitors knock at Nintendo's doorstop, they still run with the ball.
Yeah, Nintendo's always had the market on handhelds. At this point it seems like everyone and their dog has a DS Lite... AND a backup one
I def wouldn't mind picking up a PSP but right now my goal is a DS (though the time that takes may be drastically shortened as my girlfriend may get me a DS for Christmas

)
Im actually considering buying a PSP, due to a better libary of games coming. I just don't want to buy this PSP then suddenly the next Song handheld comes out and I feel like I have wasted money.
Hmm.
Here's my problem with the PSP game library. I don't want to play FF or Socom on a 2" screen. Long games like that, I'll play on my console, for a portable, I want something that I can shut at any quick second, such as New Super Mario Bros, or Mario Kart, or Brain Age. I think Sony needs to see this. I really do like the PSP, and I may pick one up for homebrew, but I really think the actual console titles still lack what a portable really needs.
Its not the fact that PSP has amazing visuals, it just that most of the games they have arent just ports they as if they should be just played on a normal PS2 or PS3 instead. They need more portable friendly games like Daxter, R&C Size Matters... and stop with bring home console games to portable. If the developers cant get that down then the PSP games will continue to suck .
i'm not too sure what will happen in the near future. it seems that the PS3 is starting to increase in sales just as some predicted, and the PSP could be following. where as 360 remains staggnant with its overhyped Halo.

PS3 sales increasing? Not a chance. The console was up to 60k in America (the largest market), while the 360 was around 350k last month. Overhyped Halo
I'll take
Halo
Bioshock
Mass Effect
The Orange Box
over
Uncharted
Heavenly Sword
???
???
Any day.

Ah, but the 360 has a a graphical lead right now. I do understand the difference of preference, I prefer more "American" games, with my Japanese fill coming from Nintendo. These bad storyline teenage Japanese love stories such as FFXIII just don't do it for me.

graphics isnt what draws to a system, its the game plan its whether i find the game's content interesting. Halo is a FPS/Action/Adventure. so is metroid, resistence and many other games. thats why i think its overhyped. and i no fan of FF either. i get my RPG/Action/Adventure fill from Pokemon
Sales are up due too 2 good games that came out? Either way DS Eats PSP anyday.

I agree, graphics are largely meaningless, still, 360, IMHO has better exclusives.
I'm looking forward to the DSP... A fantasy handheld which is the DS2 and can play GCN discs and pirated UMD's...
