There has been some discusion about this game lacks component x and this games y isnt very good...so I wonder besides Gameplay of course, what aspect of a game is most important to you?
Graphics
Music
Multiplayer
Online
Storyline
Replay Value
Other
I am a sucker for storyline and replayability, graphics need to be alright, but not stellar, dont care about music or multiplayer and online isnt a factor for me.
What about you?
I always like a game which is nice to look at, but its not a major thing for me. Im a sucker for multiplayer and online!
as long as the graphics have an amiable quality, I'm happy.
I mean, I love the graphics for geom wars and they're hardly crysis, eh?
storyline is a major point in my book, and I feel music goes hand in hand with this. A good game becomes shit if there isn't a good audio score.
Replayability and Online Multiplayer are also one in the same usually. Most games I will complete single player and then start playing the multiplayer. I quite like a local multiplayer option on consoles too, because it's part of the fun.
And finally, a good game has to have something new, it has to twist the conventional formula or just add something really cool.
For example,
Old Game: Wip3out on PS1, I still play this game occasionally, it took the sci-fi racer genre and put it on Japanese speed. (and it also runs at 480p. yes, 480p ON A PS1). No lag and the multi player has to be one of the best I've ever played. (personal opinion)
New Game: Halo 3, this game is amazing not because of what Bungie have done (even though it's a mighty fine job) it's the fans that have made this great. This game demonstrates why Xbox live is the best on-line gaming service. There's always a game being played, it's always lots of fun. No other game (IMO) has such a diverse on-line community.
I forgot to even mention story!
I love great video game stories! Sometimes its like watching a movie. A game with a crappy story is usually a crappy game.
Story, Gameplay, Graphics, etc.
What I REALLY like is length. And Replay Ability, I want to be playing a game for a long time to make it worth it.
alot of what is important really depends on what game it is. the game needs to have good graphics, not realistic graphics, but graphics that match the game itself. also, I really like games with good music (Zelda FTW) and storyline of course.
I only care about online in FPS and racing games mostly.
So every aspect of a game is most important to you?
I like games with multiplayer, they're good to play with friends.
all of these things are important, but in there respective places, a good game needs to have a certain level of graphics now days, but thats low. i agree with dark that a game needs a good story, but also needs really good music to back it up, the perfect example of that for me is Kingdom hearts. i love the story of this game, and i love the music even more, i have both soundtracks and listen to them multiple times a week. also, online/multiplayer is extremely important, i think thats what make replayablity, it keeps things different and always prevents something new. Thats what attracts me the most to the 360, is how well its online system works.
Storyline and Replay value are all that matters. i'd say some of the other stuff falls under replay value. i'm no graphics whore so i dont need stellar graphics, just decent.
all of those aspects mentioned in the question are of importance, although online and multiplayer are not necessary or even wise for all games in my opinion, but for me the most important thing (even more so than the others combined) is gameplay.
i would buy a game that was endlessly replayable and fun, even if all other aspects were missing
like some of the virtual console games...of course nastalgia may play a part in that
Replayability is only second to gameplay, which is by leaps and bounds number 1. Sound/music and graphics are secondary to me, and on a lot of games I don't even listen to default sound. I usually turn on the mp3 player instead.
I would have to vote for Storyline, multiplayer and graphics, graphics don't have to be stellar but decent. And when I voted multiplayer I was thinking about the online play. And the most important thing to me is the storyline, it has to hold my attention and captivate me.
Gameplay of course is the main and if I enjoy playing it. But I would probably have to go with story and replay value because I get a lot more out of the game. Multiplayer is sometimes good.
Its everything because without one all will suffer...
Gameplay
Story
Visuals
Online
I voted for most but for me the most important is replay value.
It needs to be fun for me. If it has terrible sound, graphics, or other things, but still fun, I'll play it.
