The lengths in which Bioware has gone to flesh out this world is surprising. Friend of mine got the limited edition, and it has everything detailed in that appendix to the point of absurd trivia...
QFT! BioWare spared no effort in crafting this game. If only all developers paid so much attention to detail. If you don't have it, get it.
God it was so awesome.
Gonna start again.
This kicks Halo's Ass. As far as storytelling.
This rivals Star Wars in storytelling.
But I see your point, however there are many differant alien races in Mass Effect.
God it was so awesome.
Gonna start again.
Maybe you should write a review because im still on edge about buying it.
I'll just do it here.
Mass Effect: This game sets the bar that much higher for Sci-Fi storytelling. The in-depth conversations and over all plot are far superior to that of Kotor. So, if you liked Kotor you'll love Mass Effect. Bioware really hit a gem with this because unlike Kotor...Mass Effect is very original. So, if story does'nt sell you then maybe the stellar graphics will. The game is simply vibrant with color and very awesome character models. For me, the epic scale was just half the enjoyment. The game is so cinematic and contains some of the most memorable moments in video game history. Of course the fact of how you play changes the outcome. Your decisions mold the story and instead of physical changes (like in Kotor), the story and reactions change. The game is also backed by a great soundtrack. The voice acting is prolly some of the best. The combat system is probablly the only knit-pick I have with it. Not that it's bad...it's just the AI sometimes seemed underdeveloped. But that is a pure knit-pick. The character customazation at the games start is simple yet satisfying. So, I don't know what to tell you...give it a shot.
Hope that helps.
my friend sent me an invite to play COD4, but i just couldnt pull myself away from mass effect. he was pretty pissed. lol
I'll say it isn't often an RPG captures this epic feel through the actual combat as well as the story arc. I went through this playthrough as a hardcore soldier with the Krogan and the Turian as my exclusive allies. I must say... I forget it's an RPG in how it feels. In fact, I sincerely doubt I'll touch a classical RPG ever again!
Hint: Put all the damn points you can into either Charisma or Intimidate - it will save your ass in the long run. In fact, it can dramatically alter the closing moments of the game.
So... this is a trilogy I'm looking forward to.

oblivion is still one of my favorite games. it's first RPG in a long time that i was able to put over 200+ hours into and still not be bored.
i have the LE too, but only looked through it to get the gamer pics and themes. i'll check it out more thoroughly when i finish the game at least once.
i also have to say that this is the first game i've played that nets you some sort of in-game reward for getting the achievements. i dont want to spoil anything for anyone on here, but when you unlock an achievement, look at the in-game achievement list, not the one found on the dashboard, and it'll give you a slightly better description of the achievement along with any bonuses it has.

i noticed that too. each kill gives you exp. points and (sometimes) new items, but the way it does it is very unintrusive. theres no happy little victory song followed with a victory dance. theres no break from the battle to see exactly how many exp. points you got or what items you just picked up. you can check all that out, plus level up your character, whenever youre ready to. oblivion did something similar with the level-ups, but you had to sleep first to be able to distribute points to your skills.
so far im leading the path of a paragon with the default character. im doing a bunch of side quests too, so it's def. taking me longer to finish this game. i already have over 30+ hours. my next character will be a complete douche...and female to boot. lol

It's fun from what I've played though.
