I do. I'm not a fan personally of Web 2.0 slang lolol! I prefer basic text, but for the text itself to be interesting and fun (I'm sure you're smiling with joy while reading this).
I'm also a member of staff now, and you'll notice that a lot of the staff type "normally", just because it's good type. Also it's good practice for my job as News Reporter.
I am a fan of basic smilies though. Not anything newbieish like this:

Yes, I generally do type with correct grammar, punctuation, and spelling. While I do not necessarily think it is the ideal way to gage intelligence, it is often done, like it or not. I do it because it is more proper. I also do not put my elbows on the table.
