The movie is slated for a Blu-ray Disc release in the US on January 2, 2008. As such, it will be Sony's first title to be compatible with the new standard for BD films. This means it will include things like picture-in-picture commentary, memory of previously watched scenes, and new menu configurations.

Additionally, according to the semi-official Playstation 3 blog Three Speech, it will contain a demo of the PS3 game Resident Evil 5. Additionally, a demo of Devil May Cry 4 will also come packed with the movie.

Users will be able to access the demos from the "Game" section of the PS3's main menu. It will be the first Blu-ray Disc with accessibility from two different headings of the console's "Cross Media Bar."

This shows Sony's acute awareness of the fact that more than 90% of the Blu-ray players that have been sold are PS3 units. With regard to standalone players, HD DVD has actually been handily beating Blu-ray.

A couple UMD movies for Sony's PSP tried a similar feature, but with little success. However, these titles were marked up substantially over other UMDs. Resident Evil: Extinction for Blu-ray is listed at online retailers for between $25 and $35, on par with other Blu-ray movies.

Seconded.

Nice to see how going Blu-Ray is going to be a big beneficial choice.

I think with this movie they have to add in something. I liked the first Resident Evil ok but the 3rd one was pretty bad. It's good to see something like this though. I'm all for being able to do more than one thing on a disc and I think more games should have a demo or two of another game from the same company. It would give users a chance to try their product and see how great it is and go out and buy the full version. Maybe they're just afraid of gamers seeing how crappy it is and not buying it though. Either way this is a good idea imo.
Awesome. Totally awesome move by Sony and Capcom.
I never saw RE Extinction because I had heard how bad it was, but I like the idea of those who will buy it on Blu Ray will have the chance at a demo for the next RE game.
Yeah, the combination is good and maybe more of this would help to sell certain movies/games. I know that this movie needed something to help boost sells and this just may do it. By how much I don't know.

It wasn't too bad, it served its purpose. Plus, there was a cliffhanger so there's going to be a *sigh* 4th one.

And trust me, it was one of those cliffhangers that warranted a sequel, not one of those purposeful cliffhangers to end a series.

Sounds like a good idea and will be the sole reason copies of RE:E actually move from the shelves... not for the movie, but for these two demoes.

Seriously, never watch Extinction... its like someone vomited all over the idea of Resident Evil then made a film out of that atrocity.

Don't. Watch. It. Ever.
